Prince Hugo

I was going to the breakfast diner when I heard my father and Axel speaking from my father's study room.

"Are you sure, Axel?" Asked my father.

"Yes, it's what's best for Whelsire father." Said Axel as I heard my father sigh.

"Very well then; I will let Hugo know then," He said as my eyes widened.

I barged into the room without thinking of it, wanting to know what they were discussing.

"Let me know what, father?" I asked as they all looked surprised to see me.

"Hugo? How much did you hear?" asked my father, concerned as this alerted me.

"Apparently not enough." Said Axel, nearly laughing as I frowned at him confused.

"Tell me what?" I asked again, slightly getting impatient.

"I am stepping down from the throne." Said Axel as I frowned at him.

"What? What do you mean you're stepping down?" I asked him as he shrugged.

"It's what is best for Whelsire Hugo, trust me." Said Father jokingly.

"Plus, I have other plans that don't involve being the king of Whelsire." Said Axel as I looked at him, confused.

"What do you mean? What other plans could you have?" I asked him as he smiled at me.

"Let's just say that life has a way of mixing things up for me," he said as I looked at him confused.

'What the hell could my brother be talking about?' I thought as I looked at him, confused, before my eyes widened in realization.

"You mean?" I said as he nodded.

"Yes, yesterday at Sofia's ball, I had asked King Henrik permission to court Astrid, and I really do intend to marry her," he said as my eyes widened.

"Wow, I can't believe it. You actually manned up, brother," I said, smirking as he smiled and rolled his eyes.

"What made you come to your senses?" I asked him as he smiled.

"Well, it was the talk we were having with you about telling Sofia how you feel about her," he said, smirking as I looked at him, confused.

'I don't get it?' I thought as I continued to listen to him.

"Let's just say I preferred to act fast before someone beat me to it; either way, it was a 50/50 chance," he said as I shook my head, smiling.

"No, it wasn't Axel," I said as he frowned, confused.

"What do you mean baby-bro?" He asked me as I looked over at Dad, smiling as I turned to Axel, smirking.

"Axel, everyone saw the interactions you two have; heck, even Sofia knows, and she hoped you two would get together," I said as his eyes widened.

"Really?" He asked, surprised, while I nodded as he looked down before looking back at me.

"What I don't understand, though, is why you are stepping down. If you two were to get married, wouldn't she become queen of Whelsire?" I asked as Dad nodded.

"That's one thing, or both kingdoms would unite, and they would look after both kingdoms," said Dad as I looked at him.

"Why don't you do that instead?" I asked as he shook his head.

"Astrid is the heir to Freezenberg, and I would rather give up my throne for her than have both kingdoms unite," Said Axel as I frowned.

"Why?" I asked as he smiled.
