4. "Hey, you're okay. You were just having a nightmare".

You were stressed during the week that Daniel was gone. Suddenly a lot of things seemed to come onto your path and you were busy all the time, nearly finding no time for yourself to relax a little. Being stuck in horrible traffic around London right before the Bahrain grand prix was about to start nearly made you burst into tears, as you would miss the start of your boyfriend's debut in the McLaren. You were home to watch the last half of the race and later on the phone you could hear in Daniel's voice that he was slightly bummed by the fact that you missed the start, although he didn't blame you for anything as he knew it wasn't your fault. He had texted you that he was flying home and on his way to you. You were exhausted nevertheless, feeling overworked by life in general, however you looked forward to having Daniel home again.

You couldn't wait for the stories of his first grand prix weekend with his new team. You went to bed with a headache, even a steaming hot shower and some paracetamol wasn't able to stop the pounding of your brain against your skull. Daniel had mentioned that you shouldn't wait for him, he could be home late. For once, you accepted your tiredness and you fell asleep almost immediately. Unfortunately, your slumber wasn't peaceful and the scenes that unraveled behind your eyelids caused your heartrate to increase and your hands were sweaty while they curled around the duvet of the bed. The sounds of Daniel coming into your shared apartment didn't wake you up at all, too engaged with the dream you were currently having. Daniel stopped for a second as he heard you hum softly, realizing you were asleep as he entered the bedroom.

He switched on the small light on his nightstand and he tried to undress himself as quietly as he could. He gently crawled in bed with you, his hand reaching out to caress your face as he discovered you were sweating. Your eyes opened right away, your hand covering your mouth to prevent a soft yell from coming out. "Dan," you sighed in relief, immediately nuzzling your head into his chest. "Hi, darling," he muttered, feeling you shiver and tremble against him. "Hey, you're okay. You were just having a nightmare," Daniel told you, his other hand moved through your hair and combing through your strands. You nodded slowly. "Do you want to talk about it?" Daniel asked, but you shook your head. "I just want to hear your stories from the raceweekend," you said. "I love hearing you talk about it," you added and it made Daniel smile. "Well, alright," he gave in, even though it was late.

You listened to his heartbeat as he told you about his first weekend with McLaren, how great it felt to be part of that team. You relaxed as you heard the happy tone to his voice and you knew he had found a better place within the sport he loved so much. The car had felt good and the points were good for his debut with McLaren. The podium he scored with Renault last year had boosted him for sure, but this year the successes were coming back and you were eager to see him racing at his optimal capacity again. "I feel horrible about missing the start of the race," you whine. "Babe, it wasn't your fault," Daniel chuckled. "I still feel like I could've been home in time if I just wasn't so stressed about everything," you sighed. "I could sense you were stressed, probably also the reason why you had such a bad dream," Daniel replied.

"What are you stressed about?" he asked, your head shifting to rest on his bicep as you looked up at him. "Just everything that came onto my path this week. It was a lot," you replied. "But I'm glad a new week started and that you're home for at least one of the upcoming weeks," you said and Daniel smiled again, looking at you in the dimmed light of the bedroom, sensing that you were comfortable again now he was here. "Alright, doll. I'll tell you more about it all the next morning, okay?" he asked, suppressing a yawn and you nodded in agreement. He reached to turn the light off, the darkness filling the room again. Your headache was gone now you were embraced by Daniel and everything suddenly felt much better. Your heart fluttered as he kissed your forehead and this time you fell into a nightmare-less sleep.
