22. "I can't keep kissing strangers and pretending that they're you".

"He's been with that pretty blonde all evening already". One of your friends muttered while she nudged your side. You didn't even look over your shoulder to see Daniel, of your best friends, having his arm swung around a petite blonde ever since she set foot on his yacht in Monaco. Daniel had invited some friends as the weather had been amazing in Monte Carlo and he thought it would be nice to have a small party together with his closest friends. "I know". You responded with a shrug. "It's none of my business who he's with, so-...". You added, looking away from the judging look of your friend. "But fate has written out for you to get married to him, Y/N". She whined and you let out a laugh. "We're just very good friends". You said, while feeling that gnawing feeling inside of your chest, biting at your heart with that slight pinch of jealousy when you briefly turned sideways and saw him seated there on the sofa, his musclar arm leaning on the back of the sofa where the blonde was seated.

You had never seen her before, maybe she was a friend of a friend or something. She looked nice and if he went to spend the night with her, you truly hoped for him that he was nice. Because he's your best friend and you thought he deserved the world. After Jemma, he didn't have an established relationship for a long time. Just random one nights with girls and you were fine with it, as long as you got to spend time with him too and that he didn't forget you over some gold digger who was just there to enjoy his money and to look good at his races. You swallowed hard when you looked down at the floor. "I'm just going to get a refill, do you want anything?". You asked after you decided to down your vodka-red bull within the next minute. "No, thanks. I'll stay sober in case I have to carry home". Your friend jokingly said, making you shake your head with a chuckle. You made your way through the yacht and got to the fridge, looking over at the sunset that was so beautiful from the deck.

You had been here many times before in summer, with just him and Scottie and Marcus, sometimes Michael joined too and honestly, those were the days. You had been hiding your crush on Daniel for as long as you could and you were pretty sure no one had ever noticed and no one had ever mentioned it to him, because he would ask you about it to prevent any awkward situations. You filled the bottom of your cup with the strong beverage and grabbed another can of Red Bull from the fridge to fill it up. You took a sip and leaned against the counter, liking the feeling of the soft breeze on your skin and your summer dress that was slightly wet from your bikini underneath it. "Y/F/N said you were here". You turned your head to see Daniel coming up behind you. "She did?". You smiled softly. He nodded, his hand reaching out to lean against the metal railing. You looked over your shoulder again, confused he left the girl.

"She wanted to go back to the hotel". Daniel said, as if he could read your mind. "You didn't go with her?". You asked. "No, I didn't". He shrugged. "Why not? She seemed to be a really nice girl". You said as if it didn't cost any effort, however your lips nearly went numb after managing to get those words out of your mouth. Daniel chuckled softly and shook his head. "Why are you twirling around the point all the time?". He asked then and his words kind of caught you off guard. "I'm-... What?". You asked, your eyebrows furrowing together. "Why did you never tell me you were into me?". Your cheeks heated up and you were about to put your cup down and walk away to avoid this conversation. "Did Y/F/N tell you?". You asked hesitantly and he nodded. "I never had the balls to tell you. And what difference would it make to you?". You bluntly replied then. "A major difference". Daniel neared you and you looked up at him.

"Because I can't keep kissing strangers and pretending that they're you. If you told me this earlier, it would have saved us both from heartbreaking moments". Daniel gazed into your eyes. "So, now you're telling me you were into me the whole time but just decided to fuck other girls instead?". His eyebrows furrowed together when you stated it that way. "Ehm, yes?". He replied. "You're an asshole, do you know that?". You laughed and so did he. The laughter died down eventually and your eyes glided over his handsome features. "Do you want to kiss the real me?". You asked softly and the corners of his lips curled upwards as he leaned down. Your eyelids fluttered close when he kissed you. The feeling of his plump lips on yours were magical and you briefly froze before kissing him back. You absently placed your cup on the counter behind you, your hands reaching up to his muscled neck and your fingers slipped into his raven curls. His tongue swept over your lower lip to deepen the kiss, earning a soft moan from your throat.

His touch was gentle on the side of your neck, keeping the hair out of your face meanwhile. You felt your lips tingling when you parted from him, a rosy glow still visible on your face. "What do you say, give us a try?". Daniel's fingertips caressed your face and you nodded. "Absolutely". You smiled and your fingers entwined with his when you stepped further on the deck. "But one thing...". Daniel's eyebrows rose and you firmly pushed his chest, making him fall into the water behind the boat. He laughed as he reached the surface again and you tugged your dress over your head, jumping in the water next to him. Daniel wrapped his arms around your waist to pull you close, still having a wide smile on his face.
