July, 2004

I finally got hooked on contemporary music. I thought people would think I'm weird for listening to the Beatles because they're "old" so I gave new music a chance. It wasn't too surprising though that my favorite "new" band was praised and/or criticized for their sounding like a modern day Beatles.

The radio blasted through the stereo as my mom drove us somewhere. The radio station took a commercial break and my ears perked up when I heard the background music of a certain ad.

"Don't miss your chance to see Jet live at the Agora..."

The radio station gave tickets away but I never tried to win them. I begged my mom to take me to the concert but she wouldn't.

I fell hard for those four gorgeous boys from Melbourne, Australia and was determined to see them in person...at least once.

Spring, 2005

Jet was coming back...to support someone else.

"Who's Oasis?" I asked myself as I read over the announcement on Jet's website

"Who's Oasis?" I asked myself as I read over the announcement on Jet's website.

I went to Google and tried to figure it out.

Oasis was an English band consisting of brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, Jem Archer, and Andy Bell. They just released their latest album Don't Believe the Truth and were on tour to promote it.

"Better find out what they sound like." I reasoned.

So off to Walmart I went. I found this Oasis' new CD, Don't Believe the Truth, on a rack. I scanned its bar code on the machine and listened to a sample of their songs. One song in particular sounded really catchy.

Hey Lyla

The stars about to fall

So what you say Lyla

The world around us makes me feel so small

Lyla

If you can't hear me call

Then I can't say Lyla

Heaven help you catch me if I fall

'They sound good enough.' I thought so I went ahead and bought it.

I picked through the CD when I got home and began questioning my original thought.

Did I really like this Oasis?

Were they worth going to see so I could see Jet?

There was only one way to find out.

September 30th, 2005

I finally talked my mom into taking me to see Jet. The show was about to start and I couldn't wait.

"OH MY GOD!" I screamed when Nic Cester and company came out onto the stage. This was going to be one hell of a night.

They played a few songs off Get Born and before I knew it, they were headed back off the stage.

'Darn.' I thought sadly. 'Maybe this wasn't worth it.'

There was another support act up next. Some other British band whose name started with a "k". They sounded pretty good.

Finally, the main act arrived. I didn't know the words to most of the songs but I still liked what I heard.

I liked what I saw too.

At the end of the show, the crowd stormed the stage. The singer...what was his name? Liam something? Told them to hug and shake hands with all the band members which they all did before security drug them off.

I wanted to go join them so freaking bad but my mom wouldn't let me.

I was only thirteen after all.

I woke up to the sounds of some football match on TV. I looked around the room and realized I wasn't in Ohio.

'You didn't go to that concert!' I reminded myself. 'You didn't think it'd be worth it to hear Jet only play a few songs, remember?'

            Of course I did.

But I got to see Jet for real a couple years later and it was mega.

'Mega?' I thought again. 'Why are you using a British way of describing something?'

"Oh good, you're awake!" A cheerful British voice said.

I looked to see where it was coming from.

'Oh my God! It's the guitarist from Oasis!'

He sat down beside me on the couch. He was a bit older since that show but no less gorgeous.

"Are you okay, Jules?" He asked looking at me.

"Yeah." I assured him with a smile. "I'm much better now."
