Keep Your Friends Close but Keep The Enemy Closer

Noel and his High Flying Birds only had a few days left of the Spring leg of the UK tour. The next date was Leeds followed by one in Birmingham.

Noel had interview where he discussed different things which included answering that question no one would ever quit asking.

"At the minute I don't feel like it." He said. "Five years, two years, 18 months from now, I might wake up one morning and feel like it. But, you know, I'm not banking on it. And nobody else should hold their breath, either."

'Fuck knows I'm not.' I thought as I sighed.

Most of the bands I loved had broken up within the last several years. Oasis was the first. Then came Jet which honestly wasn't that much of a surprise. They went on a hiatus after Shaka Rock and never came off of it. And now those four lovely lads had pretty much disappeared. The last thing I'd heard of Nic was when he joined some Italian band to sing on one of their songs. I couldn't understand a word of it but I was happy to see him doing something.

Then of course there was Beady Eye which was a bit of a shock when I found out about it.

"Liam's heart just wasn't into it anymore." Andy Bell said. At least, that's what I read.

I hadn't heard from Liam since before I left with Noel and the band for Scotland. I was sure he was still pissed at me and he had every right to be. I don't know why I told him I loved him. The words just spilled out and there was nothing I could do. But he'd move on, I reckoned.

He always did with anyone else. Why would things with me be any different?

During his interview, Noel mentioned another recent band break up. One that left me quite gutted.

I'd only met the boys in person once so far but I'd been a fan for several years by that point. It all started when I bought a copy of Spin back home. It was 2008. Oasis was still together and the Kings of Leon were slowly becoming global sensations.

I liked the old KOL but this newer one wasn't my bag. They cut their hair and changed their clothes. Their Grammy winning songs were over played and I preferred the stuff only the British seemed to care the most about.

I bought the magazine which had a picture of the Followills on the cover as well as an interview with the one and only Noely G. Dig Out Your Soul was just released or just about to be released so a review was in order.

"I've only tried to kill my brother once."

That was the quote and it's pretty self-explanatory.  The end quote was even better in my opinion though.

"Liam and I are in a bad marriage. We know that. We stay together because of the kids."

I flipped through the magazine and came across a one-page article about another band consisting of three young men from England. The Enemy UK they were called. So named because apparently there was already a band in America called the Enemy. Just like the Charlatans.

'He's cute.' I mused as I stared at the one in the center.

His name was Tom. He fell in love with "Wonderwall" when he was seven. Enough said.

I went to Best Buy and bought a copy of their debut album. They were good. They were British. Again, enough said.

And now they had broken up.
