...
"Alright, Noel?" My brother Paul said through the phone.
"Alright." I replied. My gig wasn't 'til that evening so I had time to talk.
"Is Jules there yet?" He asked.
"Nah." I shook my head. "She's not due in 'til this afternoon. Why?"
"Probably got a bit to do with our Liam or summat." He mumbled.
"What?!" I exclaimed.
"She's workin' for him now. She was at that party last night. Didn't she tell ya?"
"Obviously fuckin' not! What's she doin' for him? What could she possibly be-"
"His assistant." He cut me off. "He had her checkin' on the guests and that."
Why the fuck would she be doing that? She didn't need a job. I didn't mind taking care of her. But I certainly minded her spending too much time with Our Kid.
I tried to take my mind off the possible bull shit by hiding away in the dressing room with my guitar. Everyone knew not to mess with me when I had the door shut.
I heard someone approaching outside but I wasn't about to get up and answer the door. 'Let 'em come to me.' I reckoned.
And she did.
"Hi."
"Hi." I was too pissed to look up from my guitar. Strumming it kept me under control...until she wound me up.
"Is something wrong?" She asked with just a hint of curiosity in her voice.
"As a matter of fact," I replied trying to focus on my guitar, "there is."
But it didn't work to well.
"What the fuck were you doin' at Pretty Green party?"
"Liam invited me."
So he taught her to lie. There's a big surprise. I knew it wasn't good for her to spend any time with him. She'd learn bad habits. He'd make sure of it.
Our Paul was right. Liam gave her a job. What the fuck did he need an assistant for?
It was pretty fucking easy to figure out.
"So what?" I said after she dished out as much as I did to her. "You think you're gonna be the next, who was the last one he fucked around with?"
"Debbie?" She suggested.
She was too smart. Too pretty, to be anything like that cow. Jules wouldn't let Liam take advantage of her. She'd set him straight just like she did to me. She wasn't afraid to speak her mind and her attitude demanded respect.
I had to give it to her. I liked seeing she was after more than just a good time or a fucking meal ticket.
I needed her more than I realized and I couldn't help getting jealous of...oh fuck that! I'm not jealous of him! Why the fuck would I be jealous of him? There's no fucking way. He's the one that should be jealous of me.
I mean, I still had the voice, the fans, the music...and the bird. Jules was mine. We were together. There was no doubt about that.
