Author's Note:
I've decided to carry on with my stories despite the charges against Paul Gallagher. Thank you to everyone who commented and helped me see it is possible to separate the art from the artist and still enjoy writing and reading fanfiction in this fandom. I won't tag you but if you're reading this, you know who you are and I truly appreciate you reaching out.
The following story was never meant to feature Paul so I'm writing it as I originally planned and sharing it because I was having so much fun with its plot (I'm also including the planned author's note as I intended to write it as well). When it comes to Jules' story, I feel like Paul has always been a minor character as compared to how much he features in Addie's story.
I'm not going to go on about Paul's issues in real life unless I feel it's necessary to mention it. So, this author's note will serve as a warning regarding that and be the only post about it unless I feel a need to discuss the subject again. I will post a similar author's note in Addie's next update because I'm not sure if everyone who reads my work reads every story I write. And I feel like it's needed in there given Paul's presence in her plot.
I also will not be going back into any of my stories to change plotlines in order to remove Paul, Russell Brand, Tom Meighan, or anyone else who's been charged and/or convicted with similar crimes. This is not in defense of them. It's in defense of my stories which were written long before any of this information came to light. And as I said, these stories have been a creative outlet for me for almost a decade. Jules' story turns 10 years old in November 2025 and Addie's will be 10 in June 2026. I will, however, have to figure out what to do with future stories and plotlines even though I have no major ideas featuring Paul coming up that I'm aware of beyond how much he typically features in Addie's story.
Thank you for reading.
Noel's parka hung down just below his hips. He might've been able to rock one over two decades prior but now he should've left it to his youngest brother.
"What d'yer know about hatchin' chickens?" He asked clutching the outline of something inside his coat pocket.
"What d'ya mean?" I replied.
"Exactly what I fuckin' asked yer. It's been a minute, hasn't it? Since I...well, I reckon I never done it. Me Uncle Paddy did and me Grandma Sweeney might've...but you've got experience just like 'em with your 4-H and that."
"I showed market chickens once and vowed I'd never do it again. Plus, if you're thinkin' about tryin' to raise 'em in town, you know you can't 'cuz your neighbors'll lose their shit. Maybe the next time Sara lets you borrow the country house you can-"
"Can't wait that long." He shook his head. "'Cuz this egg in me pocket'll die if yer don't help us." He rubbed the outline of the object in his pocket.
I looked at it curiously. "You're gonna need an incubator." I told him. "Or a hen willin' to set. Game birds'll pretty much set on anythin' but you ain't got one of them."
"Ain't got an incubator either."
"Well, you better get somethin' 'cuz your egg'll die if ya don't."
He opted for the incubator because it would be less noise and less cause for alarm from the neighbors.
We set it up in his music room which he thought was the best place for it.
