My lot wouldn't miss the Derby for the world. We weren't going to the Etihad but that was alright. We had the telly. We were good to go.
I was sat in the living room with my fiancée and two kids watching it all unfold. It was a terrible match to say the least. Come on City!
It was all going to shit but then the camera flashed to the crowd.
"And there's Liam Gallagher, who everyone knows is a huge City supporter."
"Surprise, surprise." I said to myself.
But the even bigger surprise was who he was with.
She had her hair tucked up in one of those slouch hats those hipster kids wear and a blue and white bar scarf around her neck. She looked about the same age as my daughter.
"He certainly does like 'em young nowadays." I mused. His last bird was what? Ten years younger than him?
To each his own I suppose. But this girl he was with – she looked familiar. Where I had I seen her before?
Oh that's right. At the Football League Cup, when they showed a very particular person in the stands. She was stood right there beside that Non-Spartan. Wonder what that was about?
It had been a long time since I'd been around him, Liam, or any of the rest of that crowd. I would've loved to go back but I was content with how things were now.
But this bird, what was her deal? Was she madferit? She had to have been a toddler when Oasis came out to take on the world. Did she know the story?
Or better yet, did she read mine?
Seeing this girl reminded me of those wild days gone by, when I was her age and in the biggest band since the Beatles.
She got me thinking about a time I spent with the Spartan she was with. I wonder if he could still remember it as much as me...

Spring, 1992
It was just a regular day. The band had just finished a recording session and everyone had fucked off except for Tony and Liam. Guigsy had left some of his weed behind and they decided they shouldn't let it go to waste.
Liam sparked up and took a long drag before passing it off to Tony as he exhaled a cloud of smoke.
"D'ya think our band'll actually make it, To'?" He asked.
"Of course it will." Tony replied. "We haven't come all this way for nothing."
"Right. We're gonna be bigger than the Beatles, yeah?"
Liam did his best to hide his fears beneath that cocky exterior he'd grown over the course of his twenty-one years of life. He didn't have much of a choice. He had to be the fucking best, at every fucking thing. He wouldn't let anything get in the way of him coming out on top.
He'd convinced the lads to let our Noel join the band. He assured them his older brother would be their ticket straight to stardom but so far they hadn't had too much to show for it. They'd done a few gigs, recorded some songs but their big break still hadn't come.
