"Will the defendant please rise?"

Liam and his lawyer did as asked.

"Mr. Gallagher," the judge began, "while I'd like to believe you're not the same person you were some twenty years ago, I still have my doubts. And your defense team has failed to prove me otherwise. Therefore, I'm sentencing you to one year in Her Majesty's Prison Service."

The crowd erupted with gasps and other sounds of shock.

"You'll be kept down below until you're transferred in two weeks' time." The judge brought down his gavel.

Liam's knees started to give way but he didn't fall down. He tried to keep calm as best he could.

Two officers swiftly came over and slapped handcuffs on him. The cold metal stung his wrists as the cuffs tightened around them.

"We'll go on appeal soon." His solicitor said into his ear.

"Wh-"

"Come on!" One officer ordered as they drug Liam off and out the side door.

The area in the basement where the holding cells were located was brightly lit. The walls were a dark smoke gray and it was freezing.

"Put these on so they can do your screenings." An officer said as he handed Liam his required jail clothes.

He changed quickly and then the screenings began.

"Open your mouth." The doctor said.

Liam did so.

"Stick out your tongue and say 'ah'."

"Ah."

The doctor shined a light in his mouth and grabbed his tongue to move it around. "Teeth appear to be good."

He shined a light in Liam's ears and eyes as well and then moved on.

"Drop your trousers please." He instructed as he changed his gloves.

"What?" Liam asked.

"Need to check your prostate."

Again, Liam complied.

"Cough please."

The mental health check went fine and Liam thought it was all over.

"We need to search you before you can go to your cell." An officer informed him.

"I don't have anythin', I promise." He assured the officer.

"That may be so but we can't take any chances."

They shined a light in his mouth and moved his tongue all over to make sure nothing was hiding. They checked his ears and his nose too and they were clear also.

"Right. The final bit." Another officer said. "Take off your clothes."

"What?" Liam said nervously.

"Take off your clothes so we can finish the search."

"I'm not hidin' nothin', I swear." He assured the officers.
