The taxi was dead silent as we drove down the crowded street. London traffic was unavoidable at that time of day but we had an appointment we couldn't miss.
"I fucked Debbie when ya were away." Liam broke the silence.
My heart skipped a beat as I turned from the window to face him.
He just gazed back at me with those cold, clear eyes clutching a cigarette between his fingers. "She made me an offer I couldn't refuse...but I'm sure it was well better than what Hook Nose give you." He put his cigarette between his lips and took a drag.
When the car finally reached our destination, I jumped out the back passenger door and raced to the building.
Fiona arranged for our meeting to be held in the conference room. Why she did I had no idea but it gave her plenty of room to spread out all her papers as the three of us sat going over them.
"We can't make any head way Jules if you don't say anything." She informed me.
I shrugged. "What's there for me to say?" I asked. "Anything that needs to be said I'm sure you two have already discussed it."
She nodded. "You're right. But I do have a few questions for you. The biggest one being about your illness in Melbourne."
Liam perked up at that. "Illness?" He echoed looking at me. "What illness?"
I felt the tears welling in my eyes as I shook my head. "It's-"
"You were admitted into hospital on Christmas Day." Fiona read from her notes. "But it-"
"Hospital?" Liam interrupted her. "Why the fuck were you in hospital? How ill were y-"
"It doesn't matter!" I cried.
His mouth fell open. "Jules?"
"How long we gonna drag this out, eh?" I glared at Fiona. "This is supposed to be over in less than a minute. Where the fuck do I sign?" I reached for the document and snatched it away before she could stop me.
I glazed it over scanning the details without reading any of the fine print.
There wasn't any to begin with. A clean break like I always promised.
"Hang on a sec!" Liam grabbed at the paper. "Blue-"
But I held it away from, signed off, and passed it back to Fiona.
The flat was quiet that night but it's not like I was sleeping.
"Blue?" Liam called from the bedroom. "Blue?"
I didn't respond and just kept tossing things in my bag.
About thirty seconds later, I heard shuffling in the hallway.
"What ya doin'?" His eyes widened as he watched me. "Jules? What're ya fuckin' d-"
"Alexi Wasser claims it was easy to leave Chris." I cut him off. "He owned the house and bought most of the stuff. She makes it sound like she was the one to leave him but I'm more inclined to believe he's the one who dumped her."
He gulped. "Jul-"
"She ain't had a serious boyfriend since their breakup. I mean, she's gone on about various people she's fucked since then. And I think she's dated a couple people according to her Insta and whatever other bullshit she's posted. But I don't think those relationships lasted too long. She don't even update her blog anymore. But the posts about Jet are still there. Her and Nic didn't get along, go figure."
