Entry 955
Thursday 9th May 2019A quiet day. I spent most of it with Leo, and the day overall has been alright, there was a bit of a brief but heated confrontation in Sails Café.
I didn't have to work today so I went for a walk with Mum and Leo along the Cowes seafront, and then we met with Sci-Fi Cyn at Sails to have a chat over a cuppa. It was nice. After yesterday's awkward confrontation with Nikki in Sails where I got covered in tea, it was nice to sit and have a refreshing cup of tea without any drama.
As we were having a chat and a cuppa, Natasha walked into Sails. "Oh God," I said, quietly under my breath, as I rolled my eyes, "Here's another b*tch that gets on my nerves." "Yes, well don't say anything to annoy her, and you might make it through the afternoon without having another cup of tea thrown at you." "Hi everyone," Natasha said, as she walked over to us. "Oh, Luke," she said, taking hold of Leo's little hand, "Is this your son?" "No," I bluntly said, "It's some random kid I found outside." "He's adorable," said Natasha, "So cute. Are you sure he's your son?" "I know what you mean," said Mum, "Leo's a lovely little thing. Luke, didn't look anything like that when he was a baby. Luke just looked weird. A bit like a lumpy loaf of bread." "Thanks Mum," I bluntly and sarcastically said. "It's true," said Mum, "The midwives and couldn't figure out which way round he went." "How are things over at The Hive?" Sci-Fi Cyn asked Natasha. "Not bad," said Natasha, "Only two infected residents at the moment but everything seems to be working out well so far. Look, I know you all weren't in support of the QCUC proposal, but now that the proposals are in full effect, I am hoping we can all work together." "Work together?" I said, "What do you mean?" "Well, in a couple of days classes will be rolled out teaching everyone how to secure and quarantine infected before they can be sent to The Hive," said Natasha, "I hope you'll go to the classes, and spread the word that we can look after the infected until a cure is developed." "Look Natasha," I bluntly said, "I wasn't here when all the voting stuff was going on. I was in a coma, and not long after coming out of the coma, I ended up in Egypt. If I was able to vote I would not have voted in support of these stupid proposals." "Luke, with respect, it doesn't matter if you'd have voted or not," said Natasha, "There was enough support for the proposals to get voted in. The proposals aren't stupid; they're sensible and needed and people on this island want them, that's why they got voted in. I thought you were in full support of the proposals now." "Why would you think that?" I bluntly asked. "Because you didn't kill those two people at the Italian restaurant," said Natasha, "I heard about that. If you aren't in support of the proposals, then why didn't you kill that woman and that waiter?" "I don't know," I said, "Maybe I should have killed them. My instinct was telling me I should kill them." "But you didn't," said Natasha, "That just goes to show that change is possible. You can go from killing infected to quarantining them." "Maybe I didn't kill Marie and the waiter because I'd had enough of killing and torturing people when I was in Egypt and when I was on the mainland," I said. "Yes," said Natasha, "I heard about that. I'm sorry about all the stress you went through; especially with your son. I'm glad you quarantined that Marie woman and the waiter, but you should have done the same with Rona on the mainland." "Excuse me?" I bluntly said. "Well, I heard about what happened," said Natasha, "You shouldn't have killed Rona. You should have secured her and brought her back here so she could have been sent to The Hive." "Natasha," I bluntly said, "I was too busy focusing on trying to stay alive and dealing with the men who sexually abused my son." "Yes," said Natasha, "I know you had a lot on your plate, but Rona was an islander, and she became infected, so you really should have brought her back here." "I did what I thought was right," I said. "So, you just stand back as your son drives off into the wild, whilst you kill Rona and leave her body over on the mainland?" said Natasha, "Do you think that's right?" Natasha was starting to p*ss me off. "Look" I snapped, "I don't have to answer to you. You and I clearly have different ideas about right and wrong when it comes to dealing with infected." "Luke went through a lot on the mainland," said Sci-Fi Cyn, "Bringing back a dead body when you're running away from infected, dealing with people that want to hurt you, and trying to stay alive isn't easy. Sometimes we have to leave the people we love behind." "Anyway, Rona wasn't on the Isle of Wight," said Mum, "And all that QCUC stuff doesn't apply on the mainland." "Maybe you should try getting through a situation where you're held hostage," I snapped, "It wasn't nice leaving Rona behind but she was dead, and me and Ash were still alive, and we had to leave Rona behind to make sure we stayed alive." "Luke, I don't want to argue with you," said Natasha, "But this island has changed and you can either work with us or complain." "He'll probably complain," said Mum. "Well, he can complain all he wants," said Natasha, "But these proposals were voted in fair and square, so everyone who isn't happy about that needs to get used to them quickly.... Look, why don't you come along and see The Hive for yourself. I think once you see how secure it is and how organised all of the safety around it is, you'll feel differently."
Natasha gets on my nerves but her suggestion about me seeing The Hive is a good one. I'll sort something out and see if Naomi wants to come with me. In a day or so I'm also going to go along to one of these classes which shows us how to secure and quarantine infected until they can be moved to The Hive. I'm not saying all this QCUC b*llocks has got my support, but I think I need to get a bit more involved and find out more information before I condemn everything. I seriously can't imagine me ever supporting Natasha or giving her ridiculous proposals my support, but finding out more information makes sense and it might help me feel even more certain that her proposals are stupid and naive.
