Entry 847
Monday 21st January 2019Roz is seriously getting on my nerves, but I managed to find out a bit more about what Kyle got up to with Tara.
I woke up in the middle night and heard some noise emanating upstairs from the living room. I went downstairs to see Kyle sat on the sofa cradling Leo. "Oh, it's you," I said, "I wondered who it was for a moment." I noticed that Kyle had a sharp kitchen knife next to him. "What are you doing with that?" I asked. "Just in case," said Kyle. "In case of what?" I asked. "Infected," said Kyle. "Well there's no infected here," I said. "Better safe than sorry," said Kyle. "Kyle, you don't need to think like that," I said. "If I didn't think like that, I wouldn't have survived out there," said Kyle, "Anyway, isn't that why you lot have all those secrets weapons that Blade doesn't know about? Roz told me." "Kyle, there's no infected on this island," I said. "How do you know that?" said Kyle, "This GRID lot could be lying. People lie you know, Luke? Mum lied to me about you. There could be loads of infected hidden around here somewhere, and you got trapped in that garage whilst there were infected outside didn't you." "There's no infected in this house, Kyle," I said. "Not yet," said Kyle, "But you never know. Having a weapon on you at all times is sensible." There was a slight pause. "How come you're up?" I asked. "I couldn't sleep," said Kyle, "It's a comfy bed but I'm not used to it. When Tara ditched me, I ended up sleeping wherever I could; burnt out buildings, empty houses, abandoned garages." "Well, all that's in the past now," I said, "You can forget about Tara." "I hope she's alright," said Kyle, "I wonder where she is?" "Forget about her," I firmly said, "Who cares where she is. Just focus on settling in here." "I came looking for you," said Kyle, "When we were underground and the countdown was happening, I tried to find you. You didn't try to find me." "Kyle, we've been through this," I said, "Mike went to look for you. I wanted to find you, but we had seconds until we thought everything was going to blow up and I couldn't leave Leo. Why didn't you come back to Sector F? Ash, Cyn and Seth were in the monitoring station. You could have stayed in there with them." "I'd just been shot by your best mate Mike," said Kyle, "I was dizzy and weak." "Yeah but you made your way underground to see Endo doing tests on Trudy didn't you?" I said, "Harold told me. I went to see him in the prison." "Luke, I didn't know where I was or what was going on," said Kyle, "I'd been shot in the arm and Tara was dragging me all over the place. I can't believe the places she took me. There's this secret base deep underground in the outback in Australia. Tara said there was this millionaire who she was going to sell the virus to. When we got there the whole place was deserted. It was covered in dust and cobwebs. It didn't look like there'd been anyone there in ages. We went to this place in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales. That was underground and when we got there the whole place had been destroyed. Smashed glass, broken windows and damaged computers. Someone had totally trashed the place. We went to this place in Brazil that was just on the edge of the Amazon rainforest. There was this guy there with a few skeleton staff. I don't mean a small number of staff. I mean skeletons that he thought were his staff. This guy was mad. Tara put him out of his misery. We went to loads of places. We eventually flew to this base that was deep under the ocean just off the cost of Fiji. We met this rich guy and Tara was going to sell the virus to him, but this bloke told her it was fake. She hit the roof. We flew back to The Base but it was abandoned. Infected were everywhere. Sector F was missing. Now I know that it got airlifted here. Tara lost it and said she wanted rid of me. That's when she ditched me and flew off. She wanted to find Harold, get the real virus and kill him." "Does she know about everyone being here on the Isle of Wight?" I asked. "I don't know," said Kyle, "She never said. She might be dead now." "I hope she is," I snapped, "Kyle, it's important, does she know that GRID have got thousands of survivors here? Does she know Harold's here?" "God, I don't know," snapped Kyle, "Stop asking me questions. I went through all this with Blade. As far as I know Tara doesn't know anything about this place." There was a short pause. "Sorry," I said, "I don't mean to get on at you. All that matters is that you're OK now. You don't need to worry about anyone shooting you, and you don't need to think about Tara. Come on, let's get you to bed." We went to bed and I was left wondering how long it would take for Kyle to get properly settled in.
