Entry 817
Saturday 22nd December 2018

I've been up all night and I'm exhausted. I haven't been into work. I told Mum to go tell Blade to get someone else to cover my shift at the reporting centre. I just can't believe what happened last night.

I'd woken up in the early hours of the morning in need of a wee. Wearing my t-shirt and boxers I walked down the landing and stopped for a moment as I looked down at the full plate of food and the untouched glass of water outside Mia's room. I gave a depressing sigh and started to walk off when I a strange rattling sort of noise coming from inside. I frowned with confusion, pressed my ear against Mia's door and listened carefully. I heard some sort of muffled sound. I wasn't sure what was going on so I gently knocked the door and asked Mia if she was OK. She didn't respond. "Mia?" I said, raising my voice slightly. I tried to open the door but Mia had locked it from the inside. I suddenly felt incredibly worried. I don't know what came over me, but adrenaline rushed through my veins and a cold shiver rushed down my spine as aggressively started trying to knock the door down. "MIA!" I loudly said. I continued trying to knock the door down by violently banging my shoulder against it but it wouldn't budge, plus I was really hurting my shoulder. I then took a step back, raising my right leg and rapidly started kicking the door hard in a desperate attempt to get into Mia's room. The door still wouldn't budge. I quickly ran back into my bedroom and looked for something heavy. The only thing that I could see that I thought would be any good was my bedside drawers. I quickly picked up the heavy-ish item of furniture, made my way back to the landing and using the drawers like a battle ram I aggressively threw them hard into Mia's door, causing it to be flung open. I placed the drawers on the floor and looked ahead to see Mia lying on her bed clutching an empty bottle of tablets in her right hand and an empty bottle of small vodka. "Oh my God!" I cried. I ran over to Mia and scooped her in my arms. She was awake but very drowsy. "Mia," I frantically said, "Mia, it's me, Luke. Can you hear me?" Ash appeared in Mia's bedroom doorway rubbing his eyes and sounding annoyed. "What the Hell is going on?" he snapped. "She's taken an overdose!" I cried. Ash immediately leapt into action and joined me. "Mia!" I loudly said, "It's Luke. Can you hear me!?" "Luke, she's not deaf," said a blunt Ash, "We need to figure out what she's taken." I grabbed the empty bottle from Mia's hand and looked at the label. "Paracetamol," I said, "It says there twenty of them in here." Ash opened the top drawer of Mia's bedside drawers and discovered two other bottles that were empty. "Oh God," I said, as my body became consumed in goose bumps, "Has she taken sixty paracetamols?" Ash also picked up a note that was folded up on top of the bedside drawers. Ash opened it to reveal it said 'I'm sorry. I'm not ready to be a Mum. I can't face life anymore. I think this is for the best. Love Mia'. "MIA, WAKE UP!" Ash shouted as we both aggressively shook a drowsy Mia. Mum then appeared in the doorway. "What's all the noise about?" she said, "It's two o'clock in the morning. You'll wake Leo up. What's going on?" "Mia's taken an overdose!" I cried. "What?" exclaimed Mum. "Sixty paracetamols," said Ash. "Mia, wake up!" I yelled. "Stop shouting at her," Mum assertively said, "You need to get her on her feet. Walk her around the room. I'll get some salt water." "Lynne's right," said Ash, as Mum ran off, "Come on Luke, help me stand her up." I grabbed the right side of Mia's body and Ash took the left side. We started walking Mia up and down the room, holding her up and trying to stop her from falling to the floor. "Oh God," I said, sounding worried, "Oh God. Come on, Mia. Please don't die. Please don't die." "Luke, shut up," snapped Ash. "I don't want her to die," I frantically said. "Stop saying DIE!" Ash loudly said. "Bring her into the bathroom!" Mum called from the bathroom.

As we desperately tried to keep Mia standing up, Ash and I dragged her to the bathroom where Mum was waiting for a pint of salt water in her hand. "What's that?" I said. "A sex on the beach cocktail," Mum sarcastically said, "What the bl**dy Hell does it look like. It's salt water." "Salt water?" I said. "Well 999 doesn't exist anymore," Mum firmly said, "So we need to get the tablets out of her system." "She means we need to make her sick," said Ash. "Exactly," said Mum, "Showing her a picture of you as a baby might work but as she can't really open her eyes this is the best thing we've got. Ask hold her head back, Luke punch her nose." Ash and I did as Mum said. "Sorry Mia love," said Mum, "This isn't going to be very nice but it's for your own good." Mum opened Mia's mouth and poured the salt water down Mia's throat. Mia started coughing and tried to reject the salt water. It was horrible and distressing sight. She tried to reach for the glass and bat it away but Mum wasn't having any of it. "Nope," she assertively said to Mia, as she continued to our the salt water down her throat, "I know you don't like it darling but it's for your own good. Ash, hold her head still. Luke, keep a firm grip of her nose." "Mum this feels cruel," I said as a tear ran down my cheek. "It's for her own good," Mum firmly said. Mia had now reluctantly consumed the salt water and started to retch. "Quick, get her to the loo," said Mum. Ash and I dragged Mia to the toilet, forced her to her knees and placed her head over the bowl as Mia proceeded to violently vomit down the pan. "Oh, thank God," I said, berthing a sigh of relief. "That's it love," said Mum, as she patted Mia on the back, "Get it all up."
