Remus opened the sliding door for Skylar, letting her walk inside the last compartment first. She looked around the space and saw Lily standing by her own. It seemed Remus and her were prefects for their house, she knew Lily would get that part. Remus walked from behind Skylar and met Lily standing in the corner. Lily didn't drop her contact with Skylar, she knew she was staring at her bruised face like everyone else in the room was.

Pepper Cycad and Blue Bristlecone were prefects for Ravenclaw
Billie Albatross and Mortimer Strix were Hufflepuff's
Lily Evans and Remus Lupin were Gryffindor's
Skylar Miller and Rowan Jackburn were Slytherin's
She stood beside Rowan who smiled deeply at her
"Hey" he said in a way of greeting

"Hey" she said back
The few people she's dated while at school were from different houses, the last being a seventh year from last year named Orion Ravens. They lasted a few months, he was in Gryffindor and seemed to be in trouble more than the Maraurder's group. Some how she felt him finding trouble had something to do with that group. When he graduated they parted ways.
She's always found Rowan to be handsome, but never bothered with anyone in her house.

The group listened as Head boy and girl explained responsibilities of Prefects. Lily stared at Skylar almost the entire time, she knew she couldn't avoid explaining what truly happened to her when Lily had her cornered.
She thought maybe if she stuck beside Remus when the group parted she could avoid the lecture or pity her friend would offer her.
She wasn't sure who stared at her the most, Lily Remus or Rowan. It seemed the whole room's attention was on Skylar. She did what she was always told to do, put on a face and stand tall.

When the meeting ended, Lily b-lined for Skylar's arm grabbing it roughly
"Ouch" Skylar said

"We need to talk" Lily said, leaving no room for excuses

"Severus will be waiting for you" Skylar snapped

Lily raised her eyebrows defensively
"Don't be an ass about him"

Remus watched their encounter awkwardly shifting on his feet. He wanted to leave since being around when they were fighting felt intrusive but felt like he couldn't walk away when Skylar might need his support

"You see what's he's doing to us right?"

"He's not even here and you want to argue about him" Lily might be as hot headed as Skylar was, but Skylar didn't back down when faced with conflict

"He crashed our Diagon Alley date, he pulled you away when you wanted to come see me in the compartment I was in, he didn't even write to me this summer but I bet he wrote to you daily" Skylar's hair was turning bright red to add to her annoyance

"He said you're acting strange and wants to guard me from your behavior. It's obvious who's right" Lily crossed her arms

The other students had left the compartment already going back to their own, except for the three of them and Rowan. He was leaning against a wall, watching how the twin flames were going at each other.

"Have I ever been shifty with you?" Skylar asked "I've stuck up for you countless times, want to know why I'm all bruised up?? It's because again I stuck up for you when someone was shit talking you!" She yelled
Remus scrunched his face, information she hasn't told was being discussed.
Skylar had momentarily forgotten anyone else was in the room with them
"Fucking Bartemius and Adrian called you a mudblood and I stood up for you. Broken ribs and a black eye is what I get in return"

"Sky you didn't have to" Lily said, simmering down from the argument

"But I did. Because you're my FRIEND" she said standing against Lily "take Severus' side go right ahead"

"I don't want there to be sides. We used to all be friends" she said

"Used to be. He's obsessed with you Lily. Truly I think he was only friends with me because you were right there by my side"

"That's not it. He's not obsessed with me"

Skylar scoffed
"You're blind to it"

Lily walked passed Skylar and opened the door
"I'm sorry you were beaten up on my behalf. I'm glad you're ok" she walked out of the door and closed it softly behind herself

Rowan walked up to Skylar next
"Want to come sit with me in my compartment?" His brown eyes tore into her own blue ones, he looked impressed with the way she held her ground

Remus eyed him suspiciously. He wasn't going to make her decisions for her, he just hoped that the Quidditch player wasn't going to swoon her over. He liked to think she was smarter than that. He's never heard anything nice about Rowan, was it because he was Slytherin or was he actually the git everyone said he was.

"Sure" she said "see you later Remus"
Remus wanted to grab her hand but he told himself he wouldn't make her choices. He watched as the two of them walked out of the door together.

When Remus returned to his compartment, he saw James and Sirius antagonizing Peter by setting pocket fireworks off.
"Quit it" Peter said blocking his face from the shooting sparks, he used to laugh when they would cause chaos now he's just annoyed by it

"This is what you get for abandoning us at Diagon Alley" Sirius said

James noticed Remus without Skylar sitting down where he was originally
"Where's goose? Did she make up with Lily?"

Sirius stopped opening up another package of pranks when he too noticed Remus was alone

"Uh" Remus thought for a moment "not exactly. They had a fall out"

James sighed
"are we going to have to help them kiss and make up? Oh I know! What gets two people together more than being annoyed at the same group? We just have to prank them together"

Remus debated on not sharing what he heard in the compartment, if she wanted them to know she would have said something.
They could hurt her again he thought to himself
"She said she got her bruises from Bartemius and Adrian. They beat her up for standing up for Lily, apparently broke her ribs too"

Sirius snapped a firework in half, sending sparks flying in both directions
"They broke her ribs??" Sirius stood up the same time James did

"Ready to go fuck up some Slytherins?!" James asked his group
Sirius was at his side already fuming, steam was rolling off of the two brutes

"Let's wait till we get to school. Trust me I don't want them getting away with it either but we need to reach our destination first" Remus mentioned

"They hurt her we can't just sit here" James said equally as mad

"Where is she?" Sirius said, violence coating his throat

"Uh" Remus debated long on answering that next question "Rowan was there and well he asked if she wanted to join his compartment and she said yes"

James and Sirius looked inches from passing out
"Not that fucking prick" James said "Jackburn is the worst. On and off the field has she really not heard the rumors about him??"

"I'll be back" Sirius said opening the compartment door

Remus grabbed his arm and brought him back to his seat
"Let her make her own choices"

"Not when she's picking the wrong ones" Sirius said

"Go ahead and try to control her, she won't respond the way you want her to" Remus said back

James was pacing back and forth in their compartment
"Our list is getting long boys" he looked at his friends, Peter was quiet per usual "Snivellus, Crouch, Callius, Jackburn, one for each of us" he smirked

"I want Jackburn" Sirius said, claiming his competition

"We're going to get them don't worry" Remus said, someone who was always calming the group down was hyping them up for once "they're not going to get away with what they're doing to our friend"
