Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from desires for pleasure that war in your members?
You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.
Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
James 4:1-4
This is not always fun, until I open the Bible, and find out what God wants me to learn. I do get confused sometimes - is the message for me or somebody else. It really doesn't matter.
God will give you what you pray for, but He doesn't honor selfish pleasures. All of our pleasures should come through Him who placed us here. When I finally learned this, the world became overly simplistic. Love God first, He will place everything in order for you.
This passage is a great example of the world and its evils. We get obsessed with owning things; what do we need to survive? More importantly, how long are we gonna be on this earth? All things come through God for everyone. The most important thing one can give to his/her children is a Bible, and time to read it with them. Tell God that you love Him.
Love God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. Read your Bible.
