Bookmark, Flare, and Thread, were all over at Bookmarks house just hanging out. It was a pretty hot day, so none of them felt like going outside, so they were all sitting on Bookmarks bed just chatting away.
"So." Thread started talking. "What have you two done this summer?"
"A whole lot of nothing." Flare responded. "My mom goes to work super early, and my other mom doesn't really have any plans for me, so I just end up sleeping in and watching TV most days," Flare said, shrugging. "Kind of boring, honestly."
"I wish I could just watch TV all day!" Bookmark added. "But my parents made me go to this summer camp, and I hate it!"
Flare looked at Bookmark with sympathy. "Summer camp? That sounds rough. What kind of camp?"
Bookmark sighed. "It's a day camp at this school, and it just sucks! The activities are okay, but the other people there are awful! The consolers don't care that the other kids are being so loud all the time, it's quite annoying honestly."
"My house is basically a mini summer camp at this point." Thread said with a chuckle. "Now that two of my aunts don't work during the summer, since they are both teachers, they have all the time in the world to plan 'fun' activities for us," Thread said, rolling her eyes. "Every day it's something new. A couple days ago, we went to the zoo, and we ended up leaving early because the twins wouldn't stop fighting."
Flare laughed, shaking her head. "Oh man, sounds like a blast."
Thread groaned. "It wasn't. Then there's my dad, who has nothing to do then to take our devices away and make us do something "productive" instead, like board games or helping clean the house. I swear, it's like he doesn't understand that sometimes doing nothing is the best way to spend the day."
Bookmark laughed. "Yeah, my parents are the same. They think if I'm not doing something 'productive,' then I'm just wasting time. Like, I can't just be sometimes."
Flare smirked. "I get that too. But hey, at least my moms don't take away my phone. They just leave me to do whatever and assume I'm fine."
Thread looked at Flare with wide eyes. "You have a phone?"
Flare nodded, taking out the device. "Yeah, my parents got it for me a while ago. They said it was so I could stay in touch with them when I'm out and about, but mostly I just use it to watch videos."
Thread's eyes widened even more. "I wish I had a phone. I mean, I could have one, but my parents say I don't need it yet, especially now that my dad doesn't work any more. They always say I'll get one when I'm older, but I swear I'm the only one without one."
Bookmark laughed. "Yeah, Thread, you're probably the last person who doesn't have one. Everyone at camp was on their phones the whole time, don't think I could make it through the day without it!"
"It's funny," Flare chuckled. "Because my parents didn't even think about the fact that I can now watch that show they were on all those years ago."
"Wait...you mean BFDI?" Bookmark was in shock. "My mom said that the show no longer exists on the internet!"
"Well, your mom lied to you." Flare said. "Because I can pull it up on my phone right now!"
"I've got to see this!" Thread exclaimed, "My parents have shown me some pictures, but they weren't going to let me see footage of the show until I was older...now that I think about it, maybe that's why I don't have a phone."
Flare grinned, unlocking her phone and swiping through it effortlessly. "You guys are in for a treat," she said with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "I watched like the first episode or two, I need you two to see this. Your parents were...quite interesting Thread."
