Pen and Eraser picked up Capy and Bladey from school, so that Bladey could spend the afternoon at their place. Bladey had never been over to Capy's house before, and both girls were excited to spend the afternoon together.

The car ride home was full of chatter. Capy eagerly described all the fun things they could do. "We just finished decorating my room! It took a while, but I really like it!"

"That sounds exciting!" Bladey exclaimed. "What color is it painted?"

Capy grinned. "It's a very dark blue. My dads let me pick out the color of it, and I love it!"

"I'm glad you like it kiddo!" Eraser exclaimed. "It took two separate showers to wash off all that paint!"

The others chuckled. Capy rolled her eyes. "Well sorry dad, but you know that I didn't like the light pink it was originally, it felt way too girly!"

"Hey!" Eraser siad, slightly offended. "I think Pink is a pretty manly color if I do say so myself."

Pen momentarily took his hand off the steering wheel to nudge Eraser. "What matters is that your happy and comfortable, that's all we've wanted to do since the day we took you home!"

Capy smiled warmly, her cheeks turning a soft shade of pink—this time, the kind she didn't mind. "Thanks, Dad. You guys are the best."

Bladey grinned, looking between the two dads and her friend. "You're so lucky, Capy. I think it's awesome how much your dads care about you."

Pen glanced at Bladey in the rearview mirror and smiled. "Thanks, Bladey. We try our best. And today, we're going to make sure you have an awesome time too."

By the time they pulled into the driveway, Capy was practically bouncing in her seat. She grabbed Bladey's hand as soon as they got out of the car and tugged her toward the house. "Come on! You've got to see everything!"

Bladey giggled, letting herself be pulled along. Inside, Capy gave a whirlwind tour of the living room, the kitchen, and Eraser's "man cave" before leading Bladey upstairs to her room.

"Here it is!" Capy declared, flinging open the door with dramatic flair.

Bladey stepped inside and gasped. "Wow, Capy! This is amazing!"

"I'm glad you like it!" Capy exclaimed. Bladey had to admit that Capy's room was pretty big, probably about double the size of hers. The two sat on Capy's bed, which was covered with a cozy quilt in various shades of blue and gray. Bladey reached out to touch the quilt.

"This is so soft," Bladey said, tracing the intricate stitching. "Did you pick this out too?"

Capy nodded proudly. "Yep! I wanted it to match the walls."

"Lucky! I've had the same blankets since I was like three years old!" Bladey said. "My moms said I might be able to get new ones for Christmas, but we'll see if I want them that badly."

Capy grinned. "My dads are always getting me new stuff for my room. I love it, don't get me wrong, but I don't really need it all, you know? Like, I can live without a video game set in my room, I love playing them with my dad in the man cave!"

Bladey tilted her head. "Eh, I'm not huge on video games, neither is my cousin Thread. Dimey and my other cousin Sprinkle love them though, and when they need another player, they usually get my cousin Sack or my Uncle Coiny to play with them."

Capy's eyes lit up at the mention of Bladey's cousins. "It's so cool that you have such a big family! It must be fun having so many people to hang out with!"

Bladey nodded. "Yeah, but sometimes it gets annoying. Like the other day, Sprinkle and Sack had a giant food fight. My aunts and uncle tried to break it up, but nothing they did worked! Thread and I had to flee to the basement to avoid the chaos!"
