The reason why lbs is used for the word pounds
is because:
Lb is an abbreviation for the Latin word Libra, the meaning of this word means balance or scales. (Also the meaning of the zodiac sign)
But it also stood for the ancient Roman unit of measurement Libra pondo meaning, a pound by weight.
I'm guessing the reason why we use ancient measurements in the USA is because our government is set up like the Ancient Roman Empire.
We're the longest running democracy, and we found a way to make it work.
Because we read the way how they caused their downfall and found a way to get around the barriers.
