Ever since that damn Straw Hat decided to punch one of the only people he shouldn't have punched, your crew had been roped into the mess. Kid was alright with it, alight with the need for bloodshed as he stood alongside the man who caused the trouble and another with equally as bad reputation.

You couldn't help but look down upon the young captain's crew as you all stood, watching the fight being carried out. They seemed worried, but not angry about what their captain had done; much different to how you felt, however. You hadn't planned on getting involved with the marines, let along an incoming admiral.

But what really started it, were those annoying cyborgs that the government had created: pacifistas.

Kid and the man known as Trafalgar Law had their hands full with handling the large, robotic creatures - fighting away alongside their crews. You happened to be included in the latter, gun cocked and ready as you tilted it towards the giant-esque cyborg. Although you couldn't hear over the gunfire and the fighting, you though you heard something being shouted towards your area by your captain.

Your suspicions that he had something important to say were proved when you were lifted up with a small yelp of confusion.

Balancing yourself, you realised that Heat had you slung over his shoulder: bouncing your body a few times so you were settled as steadily as possible. There was a slight blush on your cheeks as he began to run in the other direction, boots thumping against the resin-soaked grass.

"Captain told us to get the ship ready."

Nodding despite the fact he couldn't see the action, you glanced over your shoulder to see that the solemn man had something of a serious expression. You were so stuck on watching as he ran that you became unexpectedly startled when there was the sound of a stalling laser.

"Heat, drop me!"

The man shot a look at you, grunting lightly when you kicked off of his body and sent him veering to the side. He managed to balance himself, just as the blinding light of a beam kicked up a line of dirt next to him.

Suddenly, his eyes narrowed and he stood back to full height after having to catch his breath from your winding kick.

"(Y/n)!"

Shouting over the dust cloud and the fighting that was still loud even where he stood, Heat came rushing forward just enough to hear the sound of ragged breathing. He picked up the sound of your gun firing back at where the beam had come from, a small huff too.

"D-did you get hurt?"

Heat heard your struggling voice through the clearing dust, making sure to crouch low enough to where you sat upright. His hands instinctively wrapped around your back and under your knees, hauling you up into his arms. He took one look over his shoulder and began to carry on running.

"You shouldn't be the one asking that."

Your hold around his neck tightened with a gasp, an excruciating pain ripping through your side.

"Are you okay?"

The blue haired man stopped abruptly, his hold tightening under you as your breathing got more shallow. Your eyes were screwed shut, mouth twitching as you held back a cry. Heat slowly noticed that your white tank top was becoming a darker red. You could practically feel his panic through the accelerating beat of his heart.

"J-just get back to the ship."

You screwed up your eyes.

Even when Heat nodded in compliance, he couldn't help but pull you closer to his chest. A pang of guilt rippled throughout his body, his thoughts prodding at him like a sharp knife. In fact, his heart was searing with pain... not as much pain as you must've been in, though.

It was his fault you got hurt.

He gripped tighter onto your body, his eyebrows knitting.

It was his fault.

The day was nice, the weather was good.

However the temperature had gotten too much for you to handle, leaving you in a bikini top and shorts showcasing the grizzly scar that stretched your left side. It was not that being in so little was bad or anything, it was that being in so little on a ship composed of men with the exception of you was not a good thing.

So far, you had been eyed like a piece of candy by just about everyone on board who was in sight. The Victoria Punk happened to be docked up at a large island known for their good food and good alcohol, so hopefully it wouldn't be for long. You were tired of being looked at like someone's next meal, so you had every intention of just jumping off the deck to go take a stroll in the town.

With a careless grin on your face, you stepped one foot off the walkway with the intention to take a wander. But before the toe of your shoe could even touch the plank, you were unceremoniously yanked backwards into a hard and built chest.

"Where are you going?"

It took every ounce of your being not to be disappointed, giving up as you knew exactly who had you stalled. Your head hung against your chest as you sighed, flopping almost like a cat.

"I was going to take a walk..."

Pouting, you tilted your head back, the sun being blocked by a figure. Heat; his wavy, blue hair falling forward as he looked down at you.

You could feel the soft strands tickling at your cheeks and your exposed back.

"Not without me you aren't."

This happened every. Single. Day.

You knew exactly what had caused it, and it was because of what happened those few years ago on Sabaody. Every time you would try to go off by yourself, Heat was right there. He was with you at all times. You appreciated it, you really did; flashing him a weary smile. It wasn't like you weren't scared, either. As much as you loved the fighting yourself, you still didn't want to do it alone.

His hand happened to move to your own, fingers interlacing with yours. His muscular chest pressed further into your back, and your spine tingled. You could feel his breath against your neck, his hair still lightly caressing you, your heart thumping.

Despite what people might want to believe about the man, he was warm and quite the soft person. At first, you thought it was his way of fighting with fire that made him so warm, but you slowly came to realise that he was just genuinely such a kind soul. You loved it.

Him, even.

You blushed lightly at his hold, his other hand resting on your waist - chin moving on top of your head. When he did that, it really was funny as the height difference was obvious. But no matter, he was perfect.

"Go do your lovey-dovey shit somewhere else."

Your captain's voice of disgust pulled you both out of the quiet, making Heat turn to give him an apologetic look.

"Sorry, captain."

As he apologised, laughter began to bubble out of your throat. You pulled the man down the walkway and off the ship, Heat sighing in defeat. He was always so apologetic, and for what? You know that you would've flipped Kid off and carried on. But you didn't want to make things hard on Heat.

After all, he was already spending all his energy on protecting you.

Author's Notes

This one was little, but it was cute.

I really love Heat, and I can't get enough of him. He really is an amazing character, no? So underrated and I just... ugh <3

But yes, thank you all for reading! I'm due to fly out of the country next week, (Well, if I don't test positive for COVID before my flight) so the patchiness will continue.

Sorry folks!

Have a wonderful day, my people, and I will see you later!
