I sat in the library with my nose stuck in a book. The Son of Achilles to be exact, I have been addicted to this book ever since I first read it. It made me cry, it made me smile yet it's the only book I've been able to read over and over again without getting bored of it.

It was late but I knew the librarian and she usually let me stay as long as I locked up after which of course I agreed to in a heartbeat.

It was dark and I knew it was due to rain soon so I packed up my book throwing my school bag over my shoulder, I carried the book that couldn't fit in my right arm. I locked up with the spare key Mrs Dorset gave me, I made sure it was locked one last time before walking down the Streep lamp lit streets.

I couldn't help but feel like I was being followed, like someone was staring at me. I shook of the feeling thinking it was only my anxiety but the sinking feeling only got worse.

I looked over my shoulder to see a taller person with their hood up, their body language sent chills shooting down my spine.

I sped up hoping I was just being paranoid but god was I wrong.

Their footsteps stood out from mine, much heavier, so it was clear to me that now I had sped up, they had sped up with to keep up with me.

I kept walking knowing their was a diner just around the corner, I had to think of something quickly or I could get hurt as a result of this. My heart pounded against my chest, it felt like it was going to leap out of my chest, adrenaline pumped chaotically through my veins.

When I looked back once more, the mystery figure was getting closer, I ran into the diner sitting at the first booth I could see which had people I could hide myself in until he left.

"Hey dad! Didn't you get my text? I thought I asked you to pick me up from the library?" One of the men at the table locked eyes with me, I shot him a look begging him to go along with it.

"I'm sorry hunny, I got caught up at work. My reply must not have sent to you. Are you hungry?" He passes me his tray of fries which I thank him for and look out of the corner of my eyes to see the guy who was following me standing in the line for food.

One of the other men with hun quickly wrote down on a napkin, sliding it across the table to me. "It's okay, I'm here now. What are the plans for tonight?" I had to keep this conversation going.

"We were gonna go home after we ate, we just got back from the studio." He explains with a small smile on his face.

I read the napkin without making it suspicious.

Is he following you?

"Yeah, I think that sounds good!" I nodded hoping he would understand. The hooded man left the diner and I let out a breath I didn't realise I was holding.

"I-I'm sorry to gatecrash your dinner, thank you so much for helping me." I rush to pick up my book and get out of their hair but a deep voice made me go still.

"You're okay, I'm glad you're safe. I'm Andy." I smiled at him. "I'm Lonny," I waved my smile growing as they introduced themselves.

"I'm Jinxx."

"Hey I'm CC!" He seemed like the hyper type. "And I'm Jake.."

"Well, I'm y/n. Thank you fake dad for saving my life." He laughed and nodded. "Of course, how far do you live?" Jake asks. I knew he meant in a sincere way and nothing else.

"Just the next block over." I tell him, none of them seemed like the weirdo type but they gave off a gentle and safe vibe. They're not unapproachable.

"We'll walk you home, please let us. I wouldn't feel right leaving you to walk home after someone following you." Jake said to which the others agreed.

I nodded slowly, "if it's not too much trouble."

"No of course not! We parked the car down that way anyways" Lonny said happily, I nodded and got up with the others. We walked out of the diner and I hugged my books to my chest while we walked, why are they so fucking tall?

"I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world."Andy said, I immediately noticed where that quote was from.

I replied with the next line. "And perhaps it is the greater grief, after all, to be left on earth when another is gone." We smiled at each other. "How do you like the book?" He asks points at the copy I held close.

"It's my favourite, the one book I can't ever seem to forget. I'll always find my way back to reading it from the start regardless of where I left off." I told him.

"I agree, it's one of mine too. I have to admit I haven't read in a while but I may have to go home and read it" just the thought of influencing someone made my heart swell.

"I think you should! It's a story but it changes your views on a lot of things." I giggle, I notice we are outside my house and run to face the five of them.

I go down the line hugging the strangers who really didn't feel like strangers. "Thank you for helping me again. It was nice meeting you."

"You too y/n."
