Ricky's POV

I often wonder what life is like past the castle walls, I was forbidden to ever leave of course but I couldn't help but want to explore everything of the land my family owned.

The village was a beautiful sight from up high and I knew everyone was living well and that was enough for me. Though not enough to be content; I want to experience the village like everyone else.

So I covered my face with a scarf so I could blend in and waited until the halls were no longer guarded. I knew the schedules of every worker here so it was easy for me to slip out unseen.

I created a distraction where I could get through the gates, I took a breath of relief once I was finally out of the gates. It didn't take me long to arrive in the village.

I was shocked by what I saw, there were markets selling bread and common food items. However I noticed a person around my age with their face covered also. Like they were trying to hide something, I watched them intriguingly as they walked past the stalls so naturally and picked up a few items before stuffing them in their clothing.

I frowned as they walked away like nothing happened, a common thief perhaps?

I followed them down the alley making my presence unknown, small children were flooding their feet in an instant. "Now, don't eat it all and make sure your families get some too." The children thanked them before running off but a the smallest girl stuck behind.

"Well hello there! I missed you Althea. How is your family?" The thief kneeled to be at the same height of the child. "We're good, papa is still sick." The thief handed the small girl a basket of food, "I'm sorry to hear that. You must let me know if you need more food than this, come back tomorrow for more, dear. Stay safe thea.." they kissed the girl's forehead before the girl disappeared.

I couldn't help but watch in awe at how the thief was so nice and sweet to the young girl. I was always told thief's were nasty and selfish people yet this thief kept no food for themselves.

I was broken out of my thoughts by a horse running by, they knew I was no longer at home. The their span around where they stood and gasped, I rushed towards the thief and pulled them behind a dumpster. "Shh it's okay." I assured them as they looked at me with a horrified expression.

"Follow me, we must get out of here." The thief took my hand and we ran through the streets. "Trust me!" They yelled as I hesitated to follow them, it couldn't hurt right?

We finally stopped running at a wall, "we just have to climb up here and we'll be safe." I could still hear guards and horses around yelling orders.

Is this what they lived like?

We climbed the wall which I had a little help from the person I ran away with. We made it onto a roof where pillow and blankets were set up with some wood set up to be like a roof over their head.

"You live here?" They nodded slowly and beckoned me to come and sit with them. I smiled softly under my scarf and sat beside them, they pulled out two apples from their pocket and handed one to me.

"Thank you.. you know stealing is bad right?"

"Well, people that live in this village have no one other choice. You must not be from around here, huh?" I shook my head slowly, admiring the view the roof gave us. It was much better than the castle could ever give.

"I am not, no. What must you mean you have no other choice?" I couldn't help but question since I was in awe at this place.

"The royals here make everything so expensive and
it's hard to get a good paying job. We live in poverty
while they're living the lavish lifestyle. I steal to feed
the village children only, they don't deserve to live like this." I felt guilty. I was brought up being told the complete opposite.

I am soon going be in power and my first job will to help this village. No one should live like this.

"I supposed you're not so fond of the royals it seems." I chuckled while tossing the apple around in my hands. "Nope. They're assholes. None of us know anything about the new king though, we're kept in the dark."

It was clear to see their accent was a lot more common than mine, which could give away my cover quite easily.

"I understand how you could feel so much hatred for them." I sigh, turning my head to look at them. They were truly stunning; piercing green eyes and long eyelashes.

"I mean there's not much we can do about how we live here. Only the Prince or new king can. Even then I don't think he would." I frowned, "how do you mean?"

"I mean they're stuck in their ways. They don't care about anyone but themselves. It's tough really, I'd like to see them live here for the day."

I couldn't help but laugh, "well as the prince I'm sure I would love to help out here." I took down my scarf feeling safe around them, they were quick to stand to their feet and grab a knife.

"Who are you?" They questioned, alarmed at my presence.

"I'm Richard Allen Olson the third. I apologise for scaring you, I just wished to be treated normally and not like a prince. I am very grateful for you showing me how the people here live." I explained with my hands up.

They soon lowered the knife and hid it back in their pocket, "you're not going to rat me out are you?"

"Of course not! You did a good thing, something I admire. It was very sweet actually." I smiled softly and relaxed now that I didn't have a knife pointed to me.

"Nice to meet you Richard. I'm y/n.. the common thief in this area." I chuckled while they giggled. "So you're being looked for, huh?" I shrugged taking s seat under the wood once again.

"I am, yes. I'm glad I left. It's a beautiful place."

"Yeah it really is once you see it for what it really is. Very kind people here too." We were cut off by my name being called, "RICHARD! GET DOWN FROM THERE THIS INSTANCE." I sighed, "that's my sign to leave you be. It was lovely meeting you y/n." I kissed their cheek leaving a light blush to dust over their cheeks.

"You too Richard."

"Oh please, call me Ricky. I'll see you soon dear." I jumped down and was immediately man handled onto the back of a horse and taken away only to where I can assume is back to the castle where my parents would be waiting for me.

No matter how much trouble I will get in, it would all be worth it. I think I found love..
