I'm still doing some research about the caves for the Blaise and Lucas chapters. I've been to Mammoth Caves several times and did a college research paper about the ecosystem, but I still want to write these chapters as confidently as possible. For now, this week remains on Teru and Kieran! Thank you for the ink donations!

[Day 6]

"Little one," Kieran whispered, stroking his fingers through Teru's hair with the flashlight in the other hand. He held his breath and stared intensely, feeling a slight panic. Would this be like the last time when trying to wake him? Did he go see Abaddon again? Just a few hours before, Teru wouldn't respond no matter how loud Kieran roared his name.

He sighed with relief when Teru's eyes flickered open.

"Already?" his omega mumbled, voice laced with sleep. Sweat dampened his baby hairs, making them stick to his forehead.

"I'm afraid so."

Kieran felt bad for disturbing his sleep. As the pregnancy progressed, Teru would get more tired. His body was slim. It took a lot of energy to grow one pup, let alone three! Being trapped in a death-trap sauna didn't help, worsening the fatigue and stress. When they reached their destination, Kieran would make sure Teru had the luxury to rest all he wanted and eat whatever he desired.

But right now...

The dirt steadily flowed in through the wide-opened crack, coming in faster with every minute. It covered the other half of the room from floor to ceiling, soon to overtake the beds.

"We must hurry. It should be safe to leave."

Kieran rummaged through Teru's bag. He hastily took out a grey shirt and track pants with white lines running up the sides, assuming the material would be stretchier around the waist than jeans.

Teru groggily looked at the old watch on his wrist. "Midnight? Were we really in here for a day?"

A day.

They both went silent, thinking of the same thing. This was day six. Three days left to get to Nashville.

If there is no more trouble along the way, we can still make the deadline much earlier than that.

Kieran beamed the flashlight on the ground, but couldn't find what he was looking for. "Where are your shoes?"

"Ummm," Teru said with uncertainty, standing up on the bed to pull the waistline over his bump. He pointed at the dirt wall closing in on them. "They were over there in the corner..."

"Sit." Kieran didn't hesitate to take off his own ankle-length combat boots. He grabbed Teru's leg and slid them on, tying up the laces. The size was too big, but it was better than nothing.

"Kieran...I'll be okay. My feet are almost better. Plus, I spent a majority of my life not even wearing shoes-"

"Stop." He finished knotting the strings and stood, cupping the back of his mate's neck. The fresh mark was scabbed over thanks to his alpha spit. When Teru slept, Kieran did his duty to provide aftercare. He stopped the bleeding by licking the mark. It was tempting to bite over his scent gland, but Teru should be fully conscious and aware of the act.

"Let me take care of you. That's what I'm supposed to do. Do you remember what I always say?"

"To worry about myself and the pups more?"

"Exactly. If the van survived the fire, I can grab another pair." Kieran gave Teru the light and hoisted the duffel bag strap over his shoulder. He picked up Teru off the bed, cradling him. His bare feet trudged through the flooded floor.
