The next day I woke up alone. Daryl wasn't beside me. I slowly sat up and rubbed my eyes. Everyone was still sleep, even Rick. Standing up, I carefully stood over everyone, making my way to the kitchen. Daryl wasn't in there. I went to head upstairs when I heard noises coming from the porch. Pulling open the door I revealed Daryl, he was sat on the wooden fence; messing around with his crossbow. His eyes shot up to me when I closed the door and I sent him a small smile.

"Why you up so early?" I asked, walking over to him. He shrugged before going back to what he was doing. I placed my hand on the back of his neck and rubbed circles with my thumb as I watched him. He stopped what he doing and looked back up at me.

"You doin' anything today?" Daryl asked.

"Yeah, first day on the job." I smirked.

"Well, I still ain't got one." He grumbled angrily.

"I'm sure you get one soon, just be patient Dixon." I told him, dropping my hand and sitting up on the fence, facing him. Daryl sighed and went back to playing with his crossbow. I pulled my legs up to my chest and wrapped my arms around them. The front door then opened, revealing Carol, all dressed up like a mom.

"Time to punch the clock and make the casseroles." She chirped.

"What?" Daryl asked, looking up, his face scrunching up in disgust when he saw her.

"Make dinner for the older people-- moms who need a break, people who can't cook. Get to meet a lot of the neighbors that way." She spoke. Daryl snorted and held back a laugh.

"All right." He said.

"Have you taken a shower yet?" Carol then asked him.

"Mm-hmm." He hummed, going back to his crossbow. Carol looked up at me and raised her eyebrows. I smirked and shook my head.

"Take a shower. I'm gonna wash that vest. We need to keep up appearances, even you." She ordered him.

"Hey, I ain't starting now." Daryl denied.

"I'm gonna hose you down in your sleep." Carol called as she walked away.

"You look ridiculous." Daryl called after her. I reached out one of my legs and kicked him. "What?" He asked.

"Don't be mean." I scolded. He smirked at me.

"Piper?" Glenn's voice suddenly sounded as the front door opened again. My smile dropped and I looked over at him.

"What?" I asked, monotonous.

"Um, we gotta get ready, first day." He told me with a smile. Without replying I jumped down off the fence, walked over to Daryl and kissed him before heading into the house, nudging Glenn's shoulder as I passed him. I grabbed my bag before heading up stairs to my room. Pulling out some fresh underwear, I began to change. I pulled on a grey long-sleeved top before grabbing my jeans. As I pulled them on and went to fasten them up, I noticed how tight they'd gotten.

"What the hell?" I mumbled to myself as I struggle to do up the zipper and button. Not thinking anything else of it, I pulled on my cowboy boots before strapping on my holster and exiting the room. I exited the house to still find Daryl sitting there, but Tara, Glenn and Noah were standing at the bottom of the steps. "Sorry for the wait, had a little problem." I told them.

"Hey!" Daryl called down to me. "Be careful out there!" He ordered.

"Always am." I called back with a smile before beginning to walk with the group. Well, with Noah. With very little chat, we reached two men, one of which was Nicholas.
