California got ready for the day, the emptiness of colors filling his eyes. It has always been like this for as long as he could remember. Black and white, Cali wasn't worried, he knew this was normal. Other people are just like me, it's so strange the world looks like this. Cali though, laughing and smiling a bit as he continued getting ready.

He walked outside and got in his gray car. He drove along the darkly colored streets, trying to find someplace to stop. He rolled his window down to breathe in the fresh air. He settled on a park. He parked his car and hopped out, looking for a path. He found a quaint little cement path on the field. He popped in his ear buds and walked down the grayscale path. He could hear two people chatting and laughing about something, he didn't care to listen, he just moved out of the way. He stared blankly into the distance as he waited for them to pass. One of their hands brushed up against his. For the brief moment he was mesmerized, it was beautiful.

What was that? Cali thought. It was so, beautiful. My eyes must be playing tricks on me. His brain continued, trying to ignore what he just saw. His heart couldn't help but flutter when the male's hand touched his. He wore a cowboy hat and a button up jacket, Cali eye's couldn't help but follow him.

He decided to head back to his car, instead going to an ice cream shop. He started driving again still trying to ignore everything. He parked his car and headed to window. He ordered strawberry with sprinkles in a cone, it was simple but he loved it.

"Here you go! Your jacket looks pretty." The worker said, handing him the ice cream.

"Thank you!" California said happily, taking the dessert.

He found her comment weird, everything looked pretty similar, just different shades of gray. He sat down at a picnic bench and started enjoying the frozen treat. He could see something out of the corner of his eye. He turned to look at it, it was the same man he saw earlier. He started to feel anxious when he neared Cali. The man sat down right next to California, smiling at the state.

"H-hi. What's your n-name" Cali said, trying his best not to stutter.

"Texas, who are you?" Texas responded.

"California." He said, his heart fluttering.

"Do you come here often?" Texas asked, wondering why he felt so weird around the other state.

"O-occasionally, I quite like this place." California said, looking over at Texas.

The two continued to chat for awhile, loving every second of it.

"We should see each other again sometime." Texas said.

"Here take my number." He said, grabbing a piece of paper before scribbling a number onto it.

He put the paper onto the table, Cali went to go grab it, but was stopped. Their hands where intertwined, sure his heart was beating out of his chest, but what he saw before his eyes was where his mind was focused. It was the same beauty, the same magical spectacle. He didn't knw what it was, he didn't want to stop looking. He was mesmerized, the grayscale world of his transformed before his eyes.

"D-do you see it?" California asked, eyes wide and mouth agape.

"See what?" Texas asked confused, looking around.

"What is this? It's beautiful!" Cali said happily.

"I don't know what you're talking about." Texas responded, chuckling, whatever California was doing was weird yet adorable.

Cali stared for a few more moment before their shared grasp ended. The black and white world coming back. He was sad, he didn't know what he just saw, but he loved it. The two shared their goodbyes before leaving. I need to see him again. Cali thought, before driving home.
