October 2, 2002

"Hungry?" My dad asked me as I walked out of their bedroom.

"I just woke up," I replied.

"So, is that a yes or...?"

"No, I'm not hungry."

"Make sure you eat, alright?"

"Alright."

"Let's go out!" Caron shouted.

"Why?" My dad asked.

"Because we have nothing better to do!"

"And what would you want to do?"

"It's up to Adette."

"I don't really want to go anything," I shrugged my shoulders.

"Come on!" Caron squeezed me. "Think of something."

"A concert."

She let go of me. "Let's be realistic."

"I guess I don't mind going out to eat or something."

"No, no, that's so typical. Let's do something fun. Fun!"

"We could play hide and seek," I joked.

"That's a good idea!" Caron squealed. "Oh my God, we could go to a park or something!"

"Oh God," My dad chuckled. "You brought out the kid in her."

"Please?!"

"Adette?" My dad asked me.

"We can always drop you off at your mom's afterwards," Caron said.

"Sure," I smiled.

Everyone got ready, then we drove to this huge park that had the biggest playground I had ever seen.

"Hey," Caron pulled me aside as my dad went to the bathroom quickly. "I'm sorry if I was a bitch when we first met. Things just weren't the best for me and I wasn't that friendly."

"It's alright. I'm glad we're good now."

She hugged me. "Me too."

My dad came out, then Caron grabbed his hand and walked to the middle of the park.

"Who's going to count?" She asked.

"People are going to look at us so weird," I muttered.

"Who gives a fuck?!"

"I'll count," My dad offered.

"Count to thirty," Caron said.

"One..."

As soon as he started counting, I raced off to the playground and hid inside a tunnel.

"READY OR NOT HERE I COME!" My dad shouted and I immediately grew nervous.

I couldn't see outside or anything, but I could definitely hear.

"Damn it!" Caron shouted and chuckled.

"Where's Adette?" He asked.

"I don't know and even if I did, I wouldn't tell you-that, my dear, is cheating."

They were right above me, so I huddled my body closer and shut my eyes, waiting for them to find me.

I felt a light tap on my foot and I turned to find Caron and my dad smiling at me.
