I wasn't really happy with how this turned out by you can bet your sweet ass I'm publishing it.

"We found him!"

"He's in here!"

"Just hang in there Pete."

"DON'T TOUCH ME!"

Peter shot up in bed, his breathing matching the erratic pattern of his heart. It had been a week since Peter had been rescued from Hydra, but he still gets the same nightmare every single night.

He clenched his fist. Fear wasn't the enemy. He had to embrace it and overcome it, lest he fall to it. A hero doesn't show fear. A hero laughs at death. He had to be stronger.

He got out of bed, deciding that today was the day he would finally resume his training with the team. After quickly putting on a black t-shirt and a pair of jeans, he headed out.

Peter quickly glanced at the time. 5:45 AM. The ideal time for a morning run. He had to push his limit, staying in the comfort zone is for cowards.

He heard the floorboards creak, and instantly put his hands up, to defend himself.

He was met with May rubbing the drowsiness out of her eyes, looking at Peter in confusion. "Pete? Why are you up?"

"It's none of your concern. Go back to bed." He stated, his voice cold and eyes fierce. May did a double take before remembering that this wasn't her little boy anymore. This was a soldier. Trained to kill.

"I'm your aunt, Peter. Of course it's my concern." She sighed. Peter furrowed his brow.

"I'm going for a run. Do not wait for me. When I return it will only be to pick up my suit."

May perked up. "Your suit? You're going to see the team today?"

"It's mandatory." Peter said, before opening the door.

"Be safe! And remember that I love y--" The door slammed in her face, and May was left in silence.

---

After running for a good two hours, he went back to the house and picked up his suit.

He put it on quickly, before he automatically began making his way to the helicarrier.

Sam, who had been making his way to the helicarrier as well, spotted him.

"Webs!" Sam called. "Hey, how have you been? It's been awhile! Are you recovering smoothly?" Sam asked.

Peter swung right past him.

Sam sighed before following him.

---

They entered the helicarrier together, and Sam was stunned by how mechanically Peter was walking.

Like a soldier.

God, he hated it.

What happened to the I-give-no-fucks-about-the-rules walk that Peter proudly donned whenever he entered a room.

It just felt...wrong.

It felt like something you shouldn't see, like you should look away. It was unnatural, different.

Sam didn't like different.

They walked into the training room, and the atmosphere got ten times colder the second Peter walked in.

Danny shuddered at Peter's aura, which was drastically different than it was before he was kidnapped.

The entire team could feel his cold eyes looking over each of them.

He took off his mask, allowing them to see his dull brown eyes. The sides of his mouth quirked up into a forced smile that paled in comparison to his old one. "Shall we begin?" He asked in a tone that tried to mimic the enthusiasm he had before.

"Are you sure you're up for training?" Luke asked. Peter dropped the smile incredibly quickly for someone who was "happy".

"Every soldier must fight until his final breath." Peter said flatly.

"You're not a soldier, though." Ava told him. "You're a teenage superhero. Emphasis on the teenage. You're a kid."

"Age doesn't matter. All that matters is staying alive." Peter said clearly, not a hint of hesitation in his voice. "You either fight or die trying."

"Did Hydra teach you that?" Sam asked, crossing his arms. Peter shot him a glare, and for the first time, Sam felt genuinely intimidated by Peter Parker.

He stood his ground, shriveling slightly under Peter's glare.

He averted his gaze, and Peter turned back to the team. "Don't underestimate me. I'm a superhero, not a weakling."

"We don't think you're weak, Pete. You're just...different." Luke winced immediately at his choice of words.

Somehow, Peter's cold eyes grew colder. "Oh, so because I'm not the same Spiderman you remember, I can't train."

"No! We love you, Peter! We just miss the old you. " Ava said quietly. Peter sneered.

"The old Peter is dead and gone. I'm here now, so you better suck it up and keep your thoughts to yourself." He spat.

God, it felt like just yesterday when Peter was saying:

"You can come to me with anything. I'm always here for you."

How times had changed.

Peter scowled and shoved past them, heading towards his usual starting spot.

The team reluctantly followed his example.

---

Jump.

Kick.

Dive.

Roll.

Kill.

Repeat.

That was the pattern Peter followed during training. He went incredibly fast, making every move look effortless.

It's not that they weren't used to it, it was just so mechanical. Like a robot that was programmed to kill on sight.

After training, Peter hadn't broken a sweat. "Is that it?" He asked.

"You didn't even let us have any." Ava huffed.

"That's your own fault for being too slow." Peter shrugged. Ava twitched but didn't say anything.

"The point of being a team is to support each other, Peter." Danny said.

"I don't need a team." Peter scoffed, causing everyone to recoil. "I can work alone."

"We know, Peter. You could always work by yourself, but we're stronger together." Luke said. Peter snorted.

"I'd rather not. I'll be leaving." Peter gave the team a wave, before he walked out.

"Bye, Pete." Sam mumbled.

And they would never see him again.
