I stepped into the pet store, my friend Soobin was laid back behind the front counter, his feet resting on the tabletop as he bobbed his head to whatever song he was listening to through his headphones. I shook my head, making a quiet tsk sound as I watched him slacking on the job. I strode up to the register and slammed my hand on the countertop. Soobin's whole body jolted as his eyes snapped open. His feet fell off the counter, his whole body nearly falling off the chair in the process. I clutched my stomach as I doubled over in hysterical laughter.
Soobin narrowed his eyes at me, his brows scrunching together angrily as he yanked out one of his headphones.
"What was that for?" He huffed.
"You can't be slacking on the job, Soobin. If I was your boss, you'd be dead by now."
"I wasn't slacking. It's been a slow day, that's all."
"Sure." I chuckled.
"What are you even doing here?" He asked.
"I just came to bother you." I grinned.
"Don't you have a boyfriend to do that to?"
"Jimin? Why on earth would I bother him? He's the sweetest boy I've ever met." I sighed dramatically, just to pester Soobin.
He cringed.
"So, what have you been up to?" I asked, changing the subject.
"Just working. I had to restock the pet food today so my back is killing me."
"Why don't you get Taehyun to help you?"
"He went home early, so it's just me."
"Sucks for you." I snorted.
Soobin scowled in response. I grinned cheekily as I strode off to the bunny cage that sat in the middle of the store.
"What do you think you're doing?" Soobin questioned, rushing around the register.
"Playing with the bunnies." I answered bluntly as I gently scratched behind one of the fluffy animal's ears.
"You always come in here all willy-nilly, doing whatever you please." He griped.
"I'm not doing anything bad. Just giving the animals some love." I turned back to the bunny with a smile.
"You know, if you like giving animals love so much, maybe you can do me a favor."
"Huh?" I looked at him. "How so?"
"Someone brought in this puppy earlier today and we don't have any empty puppy pens. Do you think you can take care of him for a few days until we clear one out?"
"Can't you just put him in the same pen with another dog?"
"No."
"Well, where have you been keeping him?" I questioned.
Just then, an adorable beagle puppy came bounding to the front of the store, it's ears flopping about. My eyes widened upon seeing the cute little thing.
"I've just been letting him run around the store." Answered Soobin. "His name is Charlie."
"Charlie." I cooed, crouching down on the ground to pet the small dog. "You said you needed me to keep him for a few days. How do you know it'll be a few days?"
"Please." He scoffed. "We have really good business at this shelter. People are always adopting animals. I know for sure you'll only need to keep him for three, four days maximum." He reassured me.
"I'll think about it."
"I can give you a bag of food and some supplies." Soobin cut in quickly.
"Okay, fine. I'll take him. But only for a few days."
"Cool!" He grinned. "I'll also advertise that we have Charlie up for adoption so if someone wants him rather than a dog that's already here, they can adopt him."
"Sounds good to me." I nodded.
Soobin stepped away to the back room to gather the things I needed.
"Thank you so much for doing this." He called as he came back to the front of the store.
"Sure. I mean, it'll only be a few days."
Soobin put a collar on Charlie and attached the leash to it. He gave me a small bag of puppy chow along with a few toys, a bowl, and a blanket before sending me on my way. As I headed home, I couldn't help but wonder what Jimin would think.

"Jimin!" I announced, stepping through the door. "I'm home and I have a surprise."
"A surprise?!" He shrieked excitedly from down the hallway.
Seconds later, he came scurrying out, his eyes glimmering with exuberance. That glimmer quickly died down when his eyes met the floppy-eared Charlie sat on the floor.
"What's that?" He pointed.
"It's a dog. What else does it look like?"
"Where'd you get it?"
"Soobin." I grinned.
Jimin groaned. "That pet shop guy?"
"Yes. I'm doing him a favor, by the way." I said, unclipping Charlie's leash. "This little guy was dropped off and there weren't any empty pens for him. I agreed to watch over him for a few days until they get space for him."
"How do you know it'll be a few days?"
"Soobin guarantees there will be an animal adopted within that time frame."
"Hm." Jimin grumbled. "Exactly how many is a few?"
"He said three days, four maximum."
I could see his jaw clench a little. "Alright. I guess I can handle three or four days."
"Perfect! Now I should introduce you two. This is Charlie. Charlie, this is Jimin."
The beagle bounded excitedly over to Jimin who sidestepped and avoided the little guy.
"Jimin." I frowned. "Don't be mean. Say hi."
He rolled his eyes, leaning down next to the dog and giving him one pat on the head. "Hi." He muttered.
"Why are you so sour?" I asked.
"I just wasn't expecting you to bring home a pet."
"First of all, he's not a pet, I'm only temporarily watching over him, and second, I don't see what the big deal is."
"It's just something else to occupy your time." He sighed.
"He won't be a nuisance if that's what you're thinking."
"Alright. Fine, then." Jimin looked down at the little dog that made himself comfortable on the floor. "I suppose he should be fed."
"Yeah. Soobin was nice enough to give me a few things I'd need since I'm doing him a favor."
I went into the kitchen and got some food and water for Charlie, setting the double sided bowl on the floor. The beagle ran over, digging in immediately.
"Look at you." I cooed.
I felt arms snake around my waist.
"How about look at me." Whispered Jimin as his lips brushed against the shell of my ear.
I shivered, earning a chuckle from him.
"Let's go to the couch."
"But what about Charlie?"
"Leave him. He can eat without someone standing over him." He muttered, placing a kiss on my jawline.
"Alright. I guess I could step away for a moment." I caved in, my body melting in his embrace.
He immediately swept me off my feet and into his arms, scurrying off to the living room. He laid me down on the couch, his brown eyes now a golden yellow color as they raked over me. He leaned over my body, his full lips encasing mine without warning. My fingers buried themselves in his honey blonde locks, tugging on it ever so often, earning small noises of approval from him; the sounds vibrating against my lips.
"I missed you today." Jimin mumbled.
"I missed you too." I admitted breathlessly.
Just then, Charlie came trotting around the corner, walking directly towards Jimin and I. Jimin let out a small growl as he pulled away, a scowl on his face.
"I guess we won't be getting much privacy with him around." He commented bitterly.
"It's only for three or four days." I reassured him gently.
"Yeah, fine."
