You guys aren't ready for this one >:)

"Come on. Just one date." Your friend begged.
She wouldn't shut up about getting you back out on the dating scene, but you just weren't interested. You dated one guy five years ago and that was it. The relationship was so draining and not what you wanted at all, so you decided to distance yourself from dating and stay single for a while, calling it quits until you felt ready to get back out there—which you weren't, not yet anyway.
"I don't think so." You turned her down, picking up a bread crumb off the table and dropping it onto your empty sandwich wrapper.
"It's been so long."
"Not long enough."
"Five years, Y/n."
"And?"
"Look, there's a guy I work with who got out of a relationship six months ago. He's talked about trying to get back out there. Maybe you could go on a date with him and see how things go. You guys might have more in common than you think."
"Not a chance."
"Not even a small one?"
"No. I already told you I don't want to. I'm just not ready yet."
You hated being so harsh with her, but she was really pushing your buttons. Her persistence was getting a bit annoying especially since you were so adamant about not going out. To your relief, she seemed to finally get the hint as she sighed in defeat.
"Fine."

You crumpled up your sandwich wrapper and thanked her for inviting you to lunch before grabbing your bag and heading to your car. Once inside and away from her, you let out a groan.
"Why does it matter so much to her?" You complained aloud. "If I'm not ready, I'm not ready."
Forcing your frustrations to the back of your mind, you pulled out of the deli parking lot and headed home. Of course, you were only able to take your mind off the subject of dating for a few short minutes before the thoughts returned. You would catch yourself unconsciously replaying the situation in your head. You turned up the radio in hopes that the music would be enough to drown out your thoughts. Thankfully, it worked, but only for a little while.

Weeks passed and every so often thoughts of dating would pop into your mind, you'd even found yourself entertaining the idea. You cursed your friend for trying to set you up in the first place. It's like she planted a seed in your mind and you hated it. If she hadn't brought up the idea of getting back out on the dating scene you wouldn't be thinking about it at all.
Though, it had been a long time and maybe going on one date wouldn't be so bad. If you didn't enjoy it then you wouldn't have to worry about a second date. Just go once and see how it goes. You'd just be... testing the waters.

After staring at your phone for what felt like an eternity, you reached for it and went to dial your friend's number hoping you wouldn't regret it.
"Hello?"
"Hey, I've been thinking about what you said at the deli last month and I think I'm ready."
A gasp was heard on the opposite end.
"Really?"
"Yeah." You sighed. "But just this one date. If I don't have a good time, don't try and set me up again."
"Oh, Y/n, this is great. You won't regret it."
"I hope not."
"I'll let him know you're interested and see where he wants to meet."
It was later that day you received a text from her giving you the name of a restaurant along with a date and time. She told you that the man you were meeting with would be wearing a green tie so you'd know who to look for. You took in a deep breath as everything slowly settled in.
Here we go.

The day of your date arrived much sooner than you expected and before you knew it you were  stepping into the bar your friend had told you your date wanted to meet at. You put on your nicest outfit for that night, feeling a bit weird in such attire, as you hadn't worn anything like that in five years.

You pursed your lips, glancing towards the front entrance of the bar, watching it for a few drawn-out moments, unconsciously playing with the empty glass in front of you. It was twenty-five after, your date was supposed to meet you at 7:00, seems maybe he had second thoughts.
Honestly you were kind of glad he hadn't shown but at the same time you were a bit upset, chuckling bitterly to yourself.
This is what I get for trying to get back out there. You thought.
The sound of a glass being placed on the bar top grabbed your attention making you look up. Sitting before you was your usual drink order, your brows tugged together in confusion.
"Excuse me, I didn't order this." You mentioned.
"The gentleman over there did. He says you're too beautiful to be waiting for a man that won't show."
You immediately swiveled in your seat look to where the bartender was gesturing, spotting a man sitting by himself at one of the small, round tables in the establishment. His dark eyes were on you as a charming grin graced his lips. He waved.
Your heart leapt in response to not only his gesture but his looks. You hadn't seen anyone so stunningly handsome in your entire life. Seriously, he looked like he stepped right off a runway, there's no way he's not a model.
Maybe tonight wasn't going to be so bad after all.
