Jungkook ♡ Soulmate AU [request]

Today was your birthday, your 18th birthday to be exact. It was a very special day, the day that you would be connected with your soulmate. Once someone turns 18, a red string appears on their pinkie, connecting them to their soulmate. It's rather exciting and something you've been looking forward to for years.

Your friend invited you out for a birthday lunch, so you were getting yourself ready for that. You chose your best outfit and took some extra time on your makeup, wanting everything to be just right for your special day.
Your friend rolled up at your house just as you finished.
"Happy birthday!" She exclaimed as you got into the car.
"Thank you."
"How does it feel to be 18?"
"The same as 17."
"I assumed so." She chuckled, driving down the road. "So, has your red string showed up yet?"
"Nope." You answered, glancing down at your pinkie.
"I'm sure it'll appear today. Everyone I know had their red string show up at different times of the day, but it was always on their birthday and not a minute later."
"That's reassuring." You smiled.

Upon arriving to the restaurant, F/n told the hostess, your waiter, and your server that it was your birthday. Because of that, you had to endure being sung to in a restaurant full of people, most of which were staring at you, but you knew you'd get a free dessert, so you could tolerate the singing and mild embarrassment.

While you waited for your orders to be prepared, you and your friend talked about anything and everything, but mostly soulmates.
"What do you think he'll look like?" F/n asked.
"Oh gosh. There's no telling."
"What would you like for him to look like?" She rephrased.
"Well, it would be nice if he was handsome."
"He will be. You know how soulmates work. You both are attracted to each other. That's why you're soulmates."
"Right." You chuckled. "I'd like for him to be funny."
"That's a good trait." Your friend nodded.
"Besides that, I don't really know. I'm honestly not too worried because I know he'll be perfect."

Your food arrived shortly, the delicious smell wafting into the air. You picked up your utensils and immediately began to dig in.
"This is incredible." You praised. "Perfect birthday meal."
"I'm glad you're enjoying yourself." F/n smiled. "Don't get too full, though. You still get a free dessert after this."
"That won't be a problem. I always have room for dessert." You chuckled.

You had already cleaned half your plate when you realized you hadn't had any of your drink yet. The food was so good, you hadn't even thought about how thirsty you were. You reached for your beverage, noticing a small flash of color. It confused you for only a moment before you realized what it was. Your eyes widened, a small gasp leaving your mouth when you saw a red string wrapped around your pinkie.
"There it is!" You squeaked.
"Your red string? Did it appear?" F/n asked, the excitement in her voice building.
"Yes." You beamed, placing a hand over your mouth in shock. "I can't believe this."
You stared at the dainty, scarlet string, unable to believe what you were seeing. You knew it was reality, but you felt like it was a dream.
"Congratulations!" Your friend cheered, clapping softly.
"When do you think I'll meet him?" You asked, giddily.
"Hopefully soon."
"I hope so too." You beamed, bringing your hand in and clutching your chest.
"Maybe you won't have to wait for very long. A lot of people get lucky like that. You might be one of them."
"That would be great, but I doubt it. That just doesn't seem like something that would happen to me."
"You never know." F/n said, eyeing you.

Weeks passed and you hadn't met your soulmate yet. It didn't bother you, though. You were just happy to finally see that red string on your finger, and even though you couldn't see your soulmate, you knew he was somewhere on the other end of that thread and the two of you would meet in due time.
Your phone buzzed on your nightstand prompting you to reach over and check it.
