You dusted around the expensive trinkets lined along the shelf in Prince Jin's bedroom, making sure everything was spotless. You worked at the Kim Castle as a maid and always made sure to do your absolute best, leaving everything perfectly pristine and dust-free. The furniture was polished to perfection, the kitchen was spotless, the floors were sparkling, and the meals you made were five star worthy.
Though you rarely got praises from the king and queen, Prince Jin always made sure to let you know how good of a job you had done. Today was no different.

"Y/n, everything is perfectly spotless." He praised. "I don't know how you do it."
"Thank you, your majesty. Honestly, it's just precision and attention to detail. That's all."
"You do a marvelous job. Thank you."
You gave him a shy smile, stepping out of his bedroom and heading to the next room to begin cleaning. You were one of many maids in the castle, but you never heard Jin compliment the others the way he compliments you. That made you feel a little special.
The prince was so kind and loved by all. When he went to town, he made sure to greet everyone, sometimes stopping to have a small chat. He always attended charity events and has done many things for the kingdom, helping to support the town in any way that he could. Like everyone else, you admired the prince... in more ways than one. It was hard not to be enamored of him. He had a lovely personality and his looks were otherworldly. Just like he would take the time to talk with the townspeople, he took the time to speak with you as well. It was usually when you were working, but he would sometime ask questions about you and your interests.

His parents, however, were different. Yes, they were polite but they weren't nearly as kind as him. They made appearances, but never made an effort to converse with the townspeople like Jin did. Their aura was a bit more austere, distant and nowhere near as warm or as welcoming as their son, but they were good people. You were fortunate enough to be able to work for them. They hand-picked you, after all. So you were grateful towards the king and queen.

The room you were currently working on was the king's study. You were always very meticulous when it came to cleaning that room. The king was very particular about his things, so you made sure everything stayed in its rightful place.

As you cleaned the large windows of the study, you heard footsteps. Glancing over your shoulder, you saw Prince Jin walking around the room.
You wanted to ask what he was doing in his father's study, but decided against it. That was his business, not yours. You tried not to overstep your bounds as a maid, so you tried not to ask too many questions. It shouldn't matter why he was in the room.

You made an attempt to focus on cleaning the windows and buffing out smudges, but Jin's presence was too noticeable. Out of curiosity, you glanced back at him. He was pacing in front of a large floor to ceiling shelf decorated with books, trophies, and trinkets.
"Do you know what this is, Y/n?" Jin inquired, reaching out to grab a trophy.
"A croquet trophy?"
"Yes. It's the first croquet trophy my father ever won."
"Yes. The king is very good at croquet. I see where you get your skills from."
"Yeah, I suppose." Jin replied despondently.
"What do you mean? You're an excellent croquet player."
"Yes, but I hate it."
Your brows pulled together in bewilderment. This was news to you.
"You do?" You questioned.
"Yes. My father forced me to get into croquet, despite my protests."
"What would you rather do?"
"Fish."
"Fish?" You repeated with a chuckle. "You'd rather do fishing?"
"I would. It looks like a lot of fin."
You pressed your lips together. The pun was terrible, but it had you suppressing a laugh.
"I'd have a whale of a time." He continued.
A laugh managed to escape you after that one.
"That's the first time I've gotten someone to laugh at my jokes. Dad doesn't like them very much."
"Well, I do. It's so stuffy here sometimes, so it's nice to have a laugh." You responded. "You know, if you want to try fishing, maybe you should talk to your dad about it."
"Maybe. I don't think I'd be able to reel him in though." Jin responded, earning another laugh from you.
"You'd better put that trophy back, your majesty. You know how your father is." You warned.
"Yes, I know." Jin chuckled softly, placing the trophy back in its rightful place.
