Your friend living in Korea will be none other than AleXa 😌 what a queen.
Note: Italics = KoreanI walked down the streets of Seoul, admiring all the beautiful buildings. This city is truly a sight to behold. The scenery is lovely and there are so many places I would like to visit. I've seen videos online of people showing off things that they purchased while visiting South Korea, so I know there's lots of cool things to find.
I came here to visit my friend Alexa, who moved to Seoul. I've been wanting to come here for a while and since I finally had a reason to, my friend insisted I visit. I couldn't say no. I wasn't sure how I would make it with my limited Korean, but things seem to be going just fine. I've been learning Korean for a while and, while I'm not fluent, I know enough to get by.I had already stopped by the LINE Friends store, and spent more than I'd like to admit. I also stopped by a cosmetics store and purchased a couple lip tints and some skincare products.
I had mentioned to Alexa how I really like the streetwear fashion in Korea and she recommended a clothing store. She said they've got a large selection of streetwear style clothing and that she thought I would like it. I took a moment to look up the location and find directions, excited to see what they have. When I stepped inside the store, I was greeted with mannequins decked out the nicest outfits I had ever seen. I let out a gasp of excitement as I began flicking through the nearest clothing rack. After a little searching, I walked over to the men's section and immediately spotted a really nice gray sweater with white smiley faces all over it. I enjoy oversized things, so I often find myself scanning the men's section for things. I reached out to grab hold of it, only for someone else's hand to reach out at the same time.
"Oh!" I retract my hand. "Sorry." I say in Korean.
My eyes followed the person's arm up to their face. A handsome man with bright eyes stood before me.
"It's okay." He waved his hand dismissively.
"You have it." The man spoke in English, his accent prominent.
He gave me a kind smile, his eyes squinting in the cutest way, small dimples making an appearance just above the corners of his lips. His fluffy brown hair seemed to bounce a little as he gestured to the sweater.
"No." I shook my head. "It's okay."
The man held his hands up as a way to reject my offer. I hesitantly took the sweater off the rack it was displayed on.
The man smiled, happy that I had given in.
"Thank you."
"Of course." He nodded. "Enjoy."
I gave him a small bow before checking out the rest of the store. The only other thing I found besides the sweater was a nice pair of black cuffed pants with straps hanging from them. I checked out and left the store.
I was pleased with my purchases and couldn't wait to show Alexa when I returned to her apartment. But first, food. I was feeling a bit hungry and I had really wanted to try some Korean street food.As I strolled down the pavement, I heard someone call out.
"Excuse me!"
I recognized the phrase, one of the few I was familiar with.
"Excuse me!" The person called again, in English this time.
I turned around, seeing the man from the store running up to me.
"Hello." He greeted, using the casual version of the word.
"Hello."
I was confused as to why this guy followed me out here, slightly concerned that he was a weirdo or something.
"Foreigner?" He asked.
I nodded. "I'm (your nationality)." I told him.
"Really?"
"Mhm." I nodded, thankful that this conversation was fairly easy.
"You're pretty." He said rather forwardly.
"Oh." My cheeks felt warm at his compliment. "Thank you."
"My name is Hoseok." He introduced himself.
"I'm Y/n."
"Do you speak Korean?"
Thankfully, that was one of the questions I memorized.
"A little." I responded.
"What made you want to visit Korea?"
I furrowed my brows, only able to understand a few words.
"Ah." Hoseok held his finger up. "Wait."
He pulled out his phone and began to type before repeating what he said into the speaker. He held his phone out and the question was asked in an English.
"My friend." I answered. "She lives here."
"Oh. Do you like Korea?" He asked in English.
"I do."
"Have you tried any food?"
"I was about to." I pointed to a food stand.
He spoke into his phone, holding it out.
"The street food here is great. I recommend trying the chicken. The corn dogs and spicy rice cakes are good too." The robotic voice from his phone said.
"Thank you. I'll try one of those." I started to walk away only for him to stop me.
He spoke into his phone, once again I could only pick out a couple words.
"I can show you around." The voice said.
"That's okay."
He shook his head and spoke into his phone again.
"The best person to show you around Seoul is a Korean."
I chuckled.
"Okay." I nodded.
"Ah! Thank you." He beamed.
The two of us walked over to one of the food trucks and I began scanning the menu, recognizing a few names of the food sold there.
"Hm." I hummed. "I'll have a corn dog, please." I told the lady working the food stand.
Hoseok ordered some sort of fried pancake and started pulling money out.
I waved my hand. "It's okay."
"I insist."
I let it go and allowed him to pay, shyly thanking him.
