It was late morning on a cold wintry day in Beijing. Zhang Zhehan finished up his solo lunch before looking out of the window and scowled at the weather.

It was snowing steadily.

Today was his long-awaited date with Yang Yang to the Forbidden City and it was literally snowing on his parade. He pressed his forehead against the window and sighed, his breath condensing against the cold glass.

Going out in the snow was an inconvenience, and he was sorely tempted to take a raincheck. However this was the only day Yang Yang had some free time, so he had to go no matter what. Unless Yang Yang wanted to stay home.

But he didn't have the chance to finish that thought. The door beeped and Yang Yang swept into the apartment. He grinned at his boyfriend. "It's cold outside, so wear an extra layer and comfortable shoes. I'm gonna change my jacket."

Zhang Zhehan stared at him. "Are we really going? I'm afraid it would be too cold for you."

"Yeah, why not? Weren't you looking forward to it?" Yang Yang hung up his coat and took out his scarf and heavy-duty jacket. "You said that the Forbidden City looks especially beautiful in the snow. I want to see it too."

"Okay then." Zhang Zhehan smiled. He went in to the dressing room and brought out a thermal undershirt. "Here, put this on."

Yang Yang quickly changed his clothes before reaching out and feeling Zhang Zhehan's

Yang Yang quickly changed his clothes before reaching out and feeling Zhang Zhehan's. Satisfied that Zhang Zhehan had enough layers on, he took up his scarf and wrapped it securely around Zhang Zhehan's neck, before kissing him on the lips.

"Hurry, our car's here. Let's go."

They put on their masks and jackets and hurried out of the flat.

"Yang, how about your lunch?"

"I ate in the car when they drove me back." Yang Yang spotted their ride and guided Zhang Zhehan towards it.

Zhang Zhehan wrapped his scarf around his face and neck securely. He shivered as the freezing air hit his skin and they quickly piled into the car.

It was a short ride because the Forbidden City was right smack in central Beijing, but Yang Yang did not want to drive as parking was limited.

In no time at all they hopped out near the gate and faced off the blustering wind and swirling snowflakes.

"It's really not as crowded as you said." Yang Yang observed, speaking quietly under his scarf. He pushed up his glasses and cast a look around the vast Tiananmen Square.

"Yeah, the peak hours are in the morning. Plus it is snowing today, so not many people are out and about, especially the elderly who are afraid of the cold."

They avoided the small groups of people gathered about as they walked towards the entrance. "Every time I go past Tiananmen, I get goosebumps." Yang Yang cast a respectful glance at the Mao Zedong's portrait.
