Up north in Beijing, Zhang Zhehan put the finishing touches on a whimsical jellyfish doodle. He took up his iced milk tea and noisily fished around the ice for the last bits of boba. He regarded the jellyfish, before scrawling "H.Z." below it in an uneven script.

He wondered how his fans were doing, He missed seeing them around, and he missed their interactions. Most importantly, he wondered if they were healthy. Smiling, he recalled one time when a fan got out of breath keeping up with his brisk walk in an airport. He had teased her then, "How can you chase stars with this stamina?"

He hoped they were all exercising and eating properly. Then he suddenly thought about Gong Jun, who would no doubt be ramping up his exercise regiment as well, but for an entirely different reason.

Slurping up the last bits of his boba, he put the cup in the trash and took up his tablet, preparing to watch the latest episode of <Glory of the Special Forces>

Slurping up the last bits of his boba, he put the cup in the trash and took up his tablet, preparing to watch the latest episode of <Glory of the Special Forces>. He really liked the show, and not just because of the devastatingly handsome male lead. The coming-of-age storyline resonated with all hot-blooded patriotic males who had once entertained the dream of being in  an elite military unit. It was a show suitable for all genders and ages, it inspired patriotism and hard work, and it aired on the CCTV network, meaning that it was Party-approved.

And unlike Yang Yang's previous drama, or his next one, there were no kissing scenes. The talented actress Li Yitong, with whom Zhang Zhehan was very familiar with on account of their <Demon Girl> drama, looked prettier than he remembered. He was glad to see her onscreen again, and even gladder not to see her in any intimate scenes with his boyfriend.

Zhang Zhehan enjoyed watching this drama. It was Yang Yang's labor of love, and his efforts showed. Despite the fact that there was zero romance and that it was a military drama, Yang Yang's character, Yan Poyue had plenty of emotional scenes. Zhang Zhehan liked it; it was a direct foil to the toxic masculinity which had been thrown around since the beginning of time. These tough, military men shed tears because of disappointment, separation and loss. It was a positive message because it showed that strong men are unafraid to cry. Strong men too have moments of fragility, and it was okay to share them, instead of keeping the feelings bottled up inside.
