To everyone's, including Zhang Zhehan's shock, <Melancholy Sunshine> rocketed to the top of the worldwide iTunes chart, right up there with Mariah Carey's <All I Want For Christmas Is You>.

This was no mean feat considering that it was the Christmas season, Zhang Zhehan's song was a Chinese one, and there was an ongoing US-Sino trade war.

It was beyond anyone's wildest dreams.

"I...I...just wanted my fans to stream it." Zhang Zhehan was so excited that he could barely get his words out. His studio staff screamed and danced around their respective apartments.

They were having an online meeting to celebrate the incredible success of the first single, and to discuss the strategy for the rest. Despite no more pandemic restrictions, everyone voluntarily quarantined at home because there was a Covid wave going on, or they were currently suffering from Covid.

"Cheers!" croaked one such stricken staff member with a fever patch on her forehead. She feebly smiled and raised a cup of hot tea.

Over in Beijing, Ms. Xie, the manager, clinked a spoon against her glass and called for attention.

"This is nothing short of a miracle. A Christmas miracle, even. I knew Zhehan's fans were sticky and loyal, but I had no idea they were like this. Truly, a righteous artist attracts the right type of fans."

She flashed Zhang Zhehan an encouraging smile. "Let's release the other songs quickly. Your fans are on a high right now and we need to capitalise on this and ride the momentum."

"Every Christmas Mariah Carey is the top of the charts. Well, you have competition this year, sister!" An excited staff member yelled into her screen, her face red. Zhang Zhehan could not be sure if she was cold, or drunk or had a fever.

"Well yes." Ms. Xie laughed at their antics. "We'll release the rap track <Knight Errant>. We have to raise the tempo, keep things interesting."

Zhang Zhehan nodded in agreement. <Knight Errant> was essentially a diss track, a fuck-you to his detractors and antis. Just as there were many people who believed in him, there were many who gloated at his misfortune and could not wait to see him fail.

And along the way, there were also others who had condemned him at first, then later realised that he had been framed, and began supporting him.

Just 1 short week after <Melancholy Sunshine> was released, <Knight Errant> dropped, and it followed the path of its predecessor and made it to the top of the global charts too. Shortly after that was the teaser of the song which Zhang Zhehan wrote and composed himself, <Journey>.

Unfortunately, he was unable to meet up with the actor of the fictional character which shared the same name as his latest song.

"I have 2 days in Shanghai in the first week of January." Yang Yang finally offered up some good news from his side. He finished filming but was immediately whisked into daily photo-shoots for his numerous brand endorsements.
