You're sitting at a table reading Nora Roberts when the door to the bunker slams open and Dean stalks in.
You raise your eyebrows, but he doesn't so much as look at you.
"Well?" You ask.
"Well what?" He growls, grabbing a bottle of whiskey.
"How'd it go?"
"Fine."
"Did you find the guy you were looking for?"
"Yes."
"Did he help?"
"We killed him."
"But wasn't he just, you know, a human?"
"Yes, Y/N. I'm aware. Okay? Just drop it."
"Is that why you're upset?" You ask, standing and going over to him.
"I'm not."
"Yeah, okay."
"Just leave me alone, okay?" He pushes past you and leaves the room.
You aren't going to honor that with a response, so you sit back down at the table.
Dean comes back out after a moment, but this time you don't look up.
"Y/N." He says, his voice still gruff.
"Yes?"
"Aren't you coming to bed?"
"In a bit."
"You should come now."
"No, I'm gonna finish this chapter. But don't worry, I'll sleep somewhere else, since you don't want to be bothered." You flip a page.
"I take it back. I... I'm sorry."
You close the book and look up at him. "I don't know what you're wanting from me, Dean."
"Nothing. Just you. Come on."
"No."
He comes and sits down across the table. "She keyed my car."
"Who?"
"Abaddon."
"Well, what'd you do to deserve that?"
"Does it fucking matter? She keyed my car!"
"You're not upset about your car."
"What?" He snaps.
"You're gonna have to drop your attitude." You snap back.
"Fine. You know what? I'm going to bed. Sleep wherever the hell you'd like." He gets up and storms out of the room—again.
You finish your chapter, and you go on to the next one. You and Dean both know that when you go to bed, you'll go to his, and you have no desire to deal with all that.
He comes out again. "Are you done with your chapter?" He asks gruffly.
"I finished it." You purse your lips as a guard against making any expression. You don't look up at him.
"Are you coming to bed?"
"No."
He takes the book from your hand and picks you up, carrying you bridal style down the hall.
"Put me down." You say shortly.
He puts you down in his room and closes the door. "Well, now you're here, you might as well just stay."
"Not if you're gonna continue being an ass."
"I'm sorry." He reaches out for you, but you jerk away. "Y/N, I'm sorry."
"Are you?" You raise your eyebrows.
"Yes."
You reach up and wrap your arms around his neck. He puts his face into the crook of your neck and lets out a sigh tainted with the stench of whiskey.
"There's something wrong with me." He says after a while.
"We'll figure it out."
"Just know that I'll always love you."
"Dean—"
"I said I love you."
"I love you too."
