Alara's POV
Mom says she's taking me to a party in Atlanta. We're in the Uber.

"Why won't you tell me who's party it is?" I ask, fidgeting in my seat.

"Because it's a surprise." Mom laughs.

"But Mom I wanna know." I whine.

"You'll find out soon, I promise." She says, sitting me in her lap.

"I'm not wearing party clothes right now." I say.

"I've got your outfit at the party already." Mom says as I play with her fingers.

"Will it be loud?" I ask quietly.

"It might be a bit loud, Alana, but you can have your headphones if you want." Mom says softly.

"Are we there yet?" I ask.

"Yep." The Uber driver says.

Mom and I get out and we're in front of a big building.

"No one would have a party here." I say. "And I just forgot! Mom we didn't get a present for the party person!"

Mom laughs. "It's not a birthday party."

"Can we just go inside?" I ask jumping up.

"We can, but I need you to hold my hand because I don't want you to get lost, okay Alana?" Mom says.

"Okay Mom." I say taking her hand as we walk.

"May I search your bags?" A security guard asks.

"You sure can! There's no drugs in there." I say, pointing to Mom's purse.

"Jesus." Mom murmurs, handing him her purse and crouching in front of me. "Alara, you can't say things like that, alright? It could get us into lots of trouble."

"All clear." The security man smiles, handing back our bags.

"Told you!" I giggle.

"Thank you." Mom says and we walk up to a reception desk.

"Hi, who are you?" The receptionist asks.

"I'm Alara, what's your name?" I ask smiling.

"Nice to meet you, Alara. I'm Rita." Rita says. "Can I take your name please?"

"Yep, it's Liz." Mom says.

"Would that be Elizabeth Gillies?" Rita asks.

"Yes it would." Mom nods.

"Sign here please." Rita hands Mom a paper and pen.

I let go of Mom's hand so she can write but I get distracted by the posters and wander off. I turn around and realise Mom isn't behind me.

"Mom?" I ask, turning around. "Mom? Mom? Mom!" I yell, running up a set of stairs. "Mom? Where are you?" I scream.

I find more stairs and end up in a long hallway.
