(Y/N)'s POV

"Stupid Hotel California!" I shouted at the entrance to the Lotus Casino, "We're in Vegas" Grover said in confusion. "What? I know we're...It's a..." I sighed deeply, trailing off. "Just...just shut up and go listen to Hillary Duff" I said.

As I cursed the gods and myself for not realising it was a trap sooner, after all my caution at Aunty Em's. But I was more upset with myself for another reason, "I never got her name!" I cursed aloud. "What?" Grover said shaking his head.

After cursing Aphrodite a few more times and reminding myself of the street we were on in case I ever wanted to return, I waved it off, I doubt I'd ever see her again, even if I wanted to, and knowing my luck she was probably eight hundred and five.

Annabeth's loaded us into the back of a Vegas taxi as if we had money, and told the driver, "Los Angeles, please." The cabbie chewed his cigar and sized us up. "That's three hundred miles. For that, you gotta pay up front."

"You accept casino debit cards?" Annabeth asked. He shrugged. "Some of' em. Same as credit cards. I gotta swipe 'em through, first." Annabeth handed him her green Lotus Cash card. He looked at it sceptically. "Swipe it," Annabeth invited.

He did. His meter machine started rattling. The lights flashed. Finally, an infinity symbol came up next to the dollar sign. The cigar fell out of the driver's mouth.

He looked back at us, his eyes wide. "Where to in Los Angeles... uh, Your Highness?" "The Santa Monica pier." Annabeth sat up a little straighter.

I could tell she liked the 'Your Highness' thing. "Get us there fast, and you can keep the change." Maybe she shouldn't have told him that. The cab's speedometer never dipped below ninety-five the whole way through the Mojave Desert.

On the road, we had plenty of time to talk. Percy told us about his latest dream, but he was not very good at remembering the details. The Lotus Casino seemed to have short circuited our memories.

It must have been still affecting me, because all I could think about was those kids, and I reassured myself I'd go back and set all those people free.

As I snapped back to reality, Grover and Annabeth were trying to squeeze meaning out of Percy's dream. He told us that a servant of a god was arguing with them over some sort of pit. I presume the real lightning thief and his boss, Hades.

The servant had called the monster in the pit something other than 'my lord'... some special name or title. I drew a blank, I didn't bother using titles, nor did I know any.

"The Silent One?" Annabeth suggested. "The Rich One? Both of those are nicknames for Hades." "Maybe..." Percy said, though he never sounded quite convinced. "That throne room sounds like Hades'," Grover said from Percy's description. "That's the way it's usually described."

But Percy was unsure again, "Something's wrong. The throne room wasn't the main part of the dream. And that voice from the pit... I don't know. It just didn't feel like a god's voice." "So, an unknown pit guy and his invisible friend." I sighed, it sounded like the beginning of a bad joke.

Annabeth's eyes widened. "What? Did you figure something out, do you know who it was?" I asked. "So, is it a monster? Or a demigod?" I stressed, trying to narrow down suspects. She shook her head, reluctant to answer.

"Oh... nothing. I was just – " She shook her head and started over, "No, it has to be Hades. Maybe he sent this thief, this invisible person, to get the master bolt, and something went wrong–" "Like what?" I asked impatiently. "I – I don't know," she said.

"But if he stole Zeus's symbol of power from Olympus, and the gods were hunting him, I mean, a lot of things could go wrong. So this thief had to hide the bolt, or he lost it somehow."
