(Y/N)'s POV

Since I was twelve, I've been forced to hunt monsters, even when I didn't really know how, and I tell you now, that makes you learn fast, monsters don't care what age you are, or how important your cause is, they were going to kill you all the same.

But over the year I sent hunting them day in day out, with only short rests to heal in between I began to pick up a few tricks that helped me with finding them, made easier by my ability to see the souls around me as I matured.

I could find any monster, if I knew what they were, a harpy left feathers behind, you'd find bunches of them near the nest, a snake woman would leave behind old scales and drag their weapons across the floor, tiny little grooves in the ground.

It was little stuff that always gave them away, as silly as it sounds, monsters seemed to work on a routine, they got hungry, they ate, they got attacked, they'd scatter or return to their nests and caves, but even with all these experiences and all my knowledge, I had to admit.

Tracking people is hard, tracking demigods is harder, but if you genuinely wanted to have a hard time of it, try hunting the Huntresses of Artemis. They were like the wind, there for a second, then suddenly they disappeared so fast you weren't sure they were there at all.

Any chance encounter I had with them in the past was a huge pain to deal with, and I never found them, they always found me, I never did manage to figure out how they did it. So, my time in D.C. so far had been utterly boring.

There was no trace of them, so either they hadn't arrived yet, or Zoe was concealing them, I guess after a few thousand years of hunting, you get good at not being found.

Thinking on it, this wasn't the best plan, I had mixed two objectives into one, I knew Luke would be here, but I didn't know where, he was being concealed by whoever he had with him, so I stayed in D.C. hoping to catch a glimpse of him.

What I should have done, if I were smarter, was track the heroes on the new quest from camp half blood, I knew they would eventually encounter Luke, but after Alabaster gave me the D.C. tip, I was keen to speed things up.

To kill time, I killed monsters, only the stragglers that were dangerous and hadn't integrated into everyday life, I even stopped off at a Monster Doughnuts just to give them a scare.

It wasn't just for fun, though that did help, it was for a few reasons, one was to gather the mist from the various disguises that monsters used in case I needed it, if I was going to get intertwined with this quest, I needed a good disguise.

The gods' eyes would be all over these campers, and if they saw me somewhere in the mix, they could doom it to fail, or all swarm me, or maybe they'd get lazy, and I'd be struck by lightning.

My other reason for hunting monsters was to see if I could find any monsters fitting the description of our mystery general. I know it was probably an old, rare monster, so the chances of finding another one on the streets of D.C were slim.

But I figured it might be a certain type of giant or something and fighting similar monsters might give me an idea how to beat it. Because if it were as old as I thought it was, I didn't want to fight it head on if I could help it.

Worst of all, I had to stay grounded, if I wasn't in total darkness or able to conceal myself with mist, flying was a death wish, and I liked flying, I know it was weird, but my wings ached if I didn't use them every so often.

If I had been able to use my wings, it would have been much easier to spot the group of mortals, demigods, and monsters, as well as something far more dangerous gathering on the other side of town, and I may have noticed, I wasn't the only person tagging along for this quest.
