The Police

I wake up and immediately check myself over before checking my surroundings. I see that I am in a room that is probably the schools infirmary for the exorcist students if what I see is anything to go by. I am in a bed surrounded by my brothers and fellow classmates. "What happened after I lost conciseness?" I ask and they all look over to me clearly noticing I am awake for the first time

They all take turns filling we in on what happened. Apparently my grandfather fell in as the gate was closing so he is gone. Bill was worried about the lessened connection we had when I was unconscious and the Pope was reinstated. Apparently I am still the paladin because I managed to contain the gate and then close it. And also Mephisto said that I have proven that I can graduate early.

Mephisto pops in a few minutes after with a diploma before congratulating me and heading off again. They inform me that I have been asleep for about a week and that I somewhat needed blood but they could not find a match for my blood type so they had to hope that I would be fine. That explains why I still feel so awful.

We talk about other things that happened while I was unconscious but it was mostly clean up and containment of information which explains why I never heard about this event when I was alive at this time before. I tell them all that I am leaving once I am released from the hospital and they seem a bit disappointed but they understand.

In the last few years I have fulfilled my duties as paladin and dealt with a few complex exorcism cases. I have also gotten a lot more into the private detective world with Lucian and we have solved quite a few complex cases.

I am in the middle of an exorcist case when Lucian calls me. Apparently there have been hundreds of criminals dying of heart attacks all around the world. He says that he has limited where the deaths seem to have originated from to Japan so I might as well stay here since my case is here anyway.

I finish up the case I am working on and head to the hotel where he is working from. I get to the room just in time for him to address the local police department. I stand off to the side as they talk about ideas and L adds my name to the picture so I add things here and there. It seems as though the killer in this case is a child if behavior is anything to go by.

After the call is over I make sure he gets a meal with actual nutrition before heading to bed. It has been over a week since I left for this mission and this case has clearly been on his plate for at least a few days so he must have been neglecting himself.

We spend the next few days discussing how we might be able to find the culprit. It helps that the moment that we suggested that it may have been a student they changed the way they are doing things. So likely they are a student that has access to police files some how.

Lucian calls in some FBI agents to observe the police officers and the people closest to them. He also has meetings with the police often to discuss what is happening with the case. I sit in on most of them but occasionally I have something else to do.

We get updates from the agents everyday and it seems like none of them are panning out. However we find out that one of the people being investigated has to be the killer because all the agents in Japan for this die of heart attacks.

Lucian notices that Kira, the killer, left him a message in the notes. "L, did you know that Shinigami love apples?" Lucian reads aloud and I burst into laughter. "What? Are gods of death real?"

It takes me a second to calm down before I can answer. "Chances are high. I am an exorcist who hunts things you can't see do you really think there are no gods of death? However that doesn't mean that is what he is really talking about."

"True." He says before the police call on him to complain about the fact that the FBI agents were investigating them in the first place. Apparently the FBI told them about the investigation after the agents sent here died. Some of them were complaining about the lack of trust and others worried about the fact the Kira was able to kill all of the agents at the same time.

After all but six of the police members on the case left Lucian decided to finally bring the police into the hotel so that he could work with them properly. Revealing himself to people for the first time.

One of them ended up bailing but the other five agreed to come two at eleven thirty and three at twelve. Lucian decided and informed the others that we will be changing hotels every few days to keep us safe. And that we would use the hotels as a base of operations for the whole investigation.

But the real test of the police officers left starts once they arrive.
