Gauri was not happy about being caught in this uncomfortable situation, but she swallowed her embarrassment to speak up. "Hume maaf kardijiye (Forgive me). All this confusion is only because of me, because Omkaraji came to help me, when he should have been here. I...."

Gauri was cut off by Jahnvi's father.

"Gauri, thats your name isn't it? I was thinking, what do you propose?" he asked simply, his face expressionless.

"What do I..propose?" repeated Gauri confused.

"Yes, what do you think is the solution? You heard the issue, and I assume from Jahnvi you know everything about her, Tej and the other woman. Now this woman wants to marry one of her sons. Rudra is safe, because in the eyes of the world at least, he is already married. What about Omkara? You helped Jahnvi solving that problem in her business last week, what do you think about this?" he asked again.

Last week? Was it only last week that Gauri had sat down with Jahnvi and her designers and they had come up with a solution for that business problem? A lot had changed in last week then. Last week Gauri was a simple girl, working in the temple, hoping to get another job, and studying in the evenings. Now Gauri was a battle-worn woman, whose hands were stained with blood.

"I ..I think Jahnvi auntyji's idea makes sense, I mean, if you can show that Omkaraji is married to someone else, this Sultana would have no other option, but to leave. But marriage is not a joke, just to be conducted for the benefit of the audience. Maybe you can persuade some girl to pretend as his wife.....But that girl won't be me." said Gauri, with determination she was not really feeling.

"So, this is how you choose to repay my son?" asked Tej, with his one eyebrow raised, and a mocking half-smile. "You said he came all the way to North, to help you with your mother's operation, and yet you can't pretend to be his wife for a few days?"

He did much more than just pay for her mother's operation, Gauri thought. He saved her from the villagers, not once but twice. He risked his own life to come and rescue her from Kali Thakur's place, even though that was slightly foolish of him, Gauri thought.

"Chhota munh badi baat bol rahe hain (Small mouth, big talk, a proverb used when you are contradicting or opposing someone older to you in age) Its strange that just a few moments back you were judging me as unfit for your son, based on my clothes. Yet, suddenly I am good enough to pretend as his wife, to get rid of this....Sultana, who entered Omkaraji and Jahnvi aunty's life, to ruin them, because of you?" said Gauri bravely.

Jahnvi was shocked but also a little insulted on behalf of Tej, and then immediately embarrassed about that emotion. Nani was too taken aback at Gauri's words, she took Gauri for a respectful, submissive sort of girl, but it turned out that she had fangs. Nana was impressed.

Tej's eyebrow was in the risk of disappearing in his hair. This chit of a girl had insulted him, and yet, not a word which had she said was false. If today his sons' liberty was threatened, it was because of him. It was his fault that his immediate family was in trouble.

"I am indebted to Omkaraji, and even Jahnvi aunty, for a lot of things." said Gauri in a softer voice. "But from where I come, marriage is not a thing to be treated lightly, it is not a gudde-gudiyon ka khel (game of dolls). More importantly, Omkaraji would never marry me, even in pretense. Maybe we could think of another way, remove the threat this Sultana is using as a leverage against your family. What is it, anyways?" asked Gauri.

"Its not my place to reveal, Gauri" said Jahnvi sadly. "Maybe you should ask him. You are right, Omkara would never agree to contract a marriage, with any girl, even for pretense sake. But we don't have time. Today is already over, we have only till day after tomorrow before Svetlana asks for one of our sons or else. I know I can't ask you to do this for us, but please just once think about this. Just think of it as a mother's request for her child." Jahnvi pleaded.
