Chapter 78

Omkara dropped Gauri off at her school. Throughout the drive they didn't breathe a word to each other. As Gauri got down, she said, "Thank You" and rushed to her school, without looking back at him. Well, thats a start, I suppose, thought Omkara.

He drove to the cafe where Rudra was waiting for him. The moment he entered, Rudra hugged him tightly. 

After a few minutes, "Pehle senti tha, ab awkward ho raha hai (It was sentimental before, but now its looking awkward)" said Omkara with a straight face.

Rudra chuckled "You will never get tired of this old joke, O" 

"Well, considering you are the one who always acts like a human magnet, tell me is the joke not apt?" asked Omkara

"Quit joking, sit down and tell me all that happened? And why couldn't we meet at the mansion?" asked Rudra

"You know why we couldn't brother. I don't want anymore drama in the house, not because of me" said Omkara

"Yeah, looks like you had a lot of drama without any help. Tell me who was the girl you were chasing since Friday? And why did you delay meeting me once you came back?" asked Rudy, eagerly.

"Its nothing like that. There was this girl, who lives in Dandi's chawl, she was in some trouble. She needed some help, so..." Omkara didn't want to tell Rudra anything about what transpired in Bareilly, but he was bad at lying too, now what will he do?

"And you were her knight in shining armor?" joked Rudra. Omkara scowled.

"I was kidding, bro" said Rudy hastily, looking at Omkara's serious expression. "Okay, don't tell me, at least I hope she was really in trouble, and she didn't con my good soul brother" said Rudy

"Well, I hope she didn't, Rudra. Anyways, forget this, what has happened in the mansion?" asked Om, trying to change the topic. 

"Nothing new. Just some random woman from somewhere who is claiming to be Annika bhaabhi's long lost mother, and who I think is bluffing because she doesn't have an ounce of Annika bhaabhi's attitude in her, nope, just the usual" said Rudra casually.

"The what? Rudra fill me in on whatever happened" ordered Omkara. 

Rudra filled him, on how Shivaay bhaiyaa was obsessed on finding out about Annika bhaabhi's parentage, since she was adopted. But in the process, he found out how much she suffered and had to go through in life, and that broke him, reminding him of how unfair and cruel he was to her. On the downside, some woman sauntered in their house claiming to be Annika bhaabhi's mother, but Annika bhaabhi herself asserted multiple times that it couldn't be true, based on something which she refused to reveal to Shivaay bhaiyaa or anyone else. 

Om felt profound grief for Annika. It must have been terrible to grow up without any family, and spend a part of her life in orphanage. 

Omkara noticed that Rudra was looking a little preoccupied. "Whats up, bro? Worried about coming exams?" he asked

"No, no that. O do you know Soumya was accepted in Yale for PH.d in Economics?" asked Rudra.

"Yes, she called me, but I was in a meeting, so she texted me the good news. I texted her back, I'll congratulate her in person, when I meet her, after your exams are done. Why?" asked Omkara

"Yeah, I just...I'm happy for her achievement, but also like, I'm feeling weird, because it means that she will leave for five years at least. O did you know a PH.d is for five years?" commented Rudra his eyes round.
