"This is Gauri" said Shivaay smiling, introducing Gauri to the entire family. Gauri felt like she was on display for everyone to see. Would she have to perform now? She could literally feel Omkara's disapproval from behind her, while Shivaay stood next to her.
"But we know her already!" said Annika, excitedly. She went up and held Gauri's hands, a bright smile illuminating her face, pulling Gauri inside the mansion. Gauri saw Dadi, and went to her and sought her blessings. Dadi smiled genuinely and blessed her. Holding her hand, she said, "Jahnvi did you know about this wedding?" looking at Jahnvi sternly.
"Yes, Maa...but the situations were such that..." Jahnvi stammered.
"I can't believe it Jahnvi, you, of all people, you have never hidden anything from me. And this,....my grandson's wedding....first, Om who never hides anything from Shivaay, and then you..." said Dadi, looking upset.
Gauri looked worried hearing Dadi's words, but Dadi, spoke to her an in undertone, "Don't worry beta, I am not even a little angry with you, you are new in here, how would you know what to do what not to do" she said kindly.
"Oh My Maata, jethaniji! You hid such a big thing from the family. And Mummyji keeps on sighting you as the role-model bahu of this house" mocked Pinky.
"Chup kar, Pinky! (Be quiet!) If today such a great distance has come between Jahnvi and Om, and the rest of us, its all because of you. You were the one who insisted that Om leave this house. When Shivaay and Rudra got married without any of us being wiser, I took solace in the knowledge that at least my Om, my sorted, sensible grandson would not deprive me of seeing his wedding, but even he followed in the path of his brothers. At least, thankfully he took his mother's blessings" bemoaned Dadi.
Shivaay and Rudra looked at the ground ashamed, especially Rudra since his marriage was a drunken mistake that literally no one acknowledged in the family, except Dadi.
"Er, I know about this too, Maa" said Tej.
"Tej?" said Dadi surprised.
"Maa, we had no option, we had to get them married quickly, because..." Tej tried to explain.
"I can't believe this, the only people who didn't know about this, were me, Shakti, Pinky, Shivaay and Annika?" said Dadi.
"And me and Prinku too" chimed in Rudra, shooting hurt looks to Om.
"Enough of this. My grandson goes to live in the other side of the city, and already the families of both my sons, Tej and Shakti, have grown so disparate that they don't even know when one of them is getting married. Enough, Om has come back to this house, and he will stay here, I will not let my family break. And dare you say anything Pinky! We have put up with your childish and immature demand for months and see the result" Dadi ordered.
Pinky looked suitably chastised.
"We must celebrate the wedding. And Annika's too. Both my bahus got married in such a surreptitious manner, and I never got to properly conduct the rasams (rituals) for any of them. So, we will do it now. Enough of my sons and grandsons doing as they please" said Dadi.
Everyone else kept their silence. Usually Dadi was always the sweet, indulging elder of the family, who seemed to have no actual or effective control over her family members, But after finally being taken granted by them all, specially over the last one year, Dadi decided to transform into the family matriarch, a role which she had abandoned for years.
Shivaay looked embarrassed, Omkara looked mutinous, and Rudra was a little relieved that Soumya wasn't here, otherwise they would have been forced into wedding rasams too, and Sumo wouldn't have taken to it so kindly like the others, how much ever she respected Dadi.
