I sighed as shikamaru walked past me. I've been madly in love with him since day one but there's one problem...
He has a girlfriend.
Temari is her name. She has blonde hair and blue eyes. She's spunky and fun and everything I'm not. It pains me to see them walking hand in hand down the street but I know I can't get involved in their relationship. It wouldn't be fair.
So I turned around and left, trying to hide the pain in my chest. It hurts. I never thought that loving someone could hurt so much!
"hey neji" I jumped at the sound of shikamarus voice "can we talk for a second?"
"umm sure" I said nervously.
He smiled and took my hand. I could feel my legs go wobbly just by him touching me.
"Stop feeling this way neji" I scolded myself "your just friends and that's all you'll ever be!"
We arrived on hillside. Shikamaru turned to me with a sad expression.
"ok so here's the thing. Me and temari haven't been getting along recently and I'm thinking about breaking up with her. What do you think?"
For a minute I got really excited. This is it. I finally have a chance to be with him-
Then it hit me. If I was to make this choice for him it would be for self gain. I can't do that to him.
"I'm sorry shikamaru but I'm not the person you should ask about this" I tried to walk away but shikamaru grabbed my hand.
"why not? We're friends aren't we?" friends. The simple word stings.
"please shikamaru just ask choji or someone"
"I can't ask anyone else" shikamaru grabbed me by the shoulders "no one else would understand. Please neji your the only person I can talk to so give me a straight answer already!"
"I can't!" I yelled.
"why not!" he yelled back.
"because I love you you idiot!" as soon as those words left my mouth I knew I couldn't take them back. I looked at shikamarus face. He was clearly shocked.
I couldn't take it anymore. I ran off with tears in my eyes. I really messed things up haven't I?
