"There comes a time where you have to forsake something in order to preserve the other."
- Rize Kamishiro, Tokyo Ghoul

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kaneki POV
Staring at him for a few moments, I slowly turn my body towards him and glare. He just stands there with a stupid smile on his face. That smile, was almost identical to the one he was wearing that day.
When the high beams fell on top of me and Rize that night, he was the one that made them fall. He is the one that sent me down this path.
A part (most) of me wants to rip him apart, and another part of me thinks of him as someone who sent me on the right path. I would have kept living my boring, one sided lie of a life I never was turned into a ghoul.
I'd still be weak.
I take a step forward, cracking my finger. "Hey, Furuta." I said slowly.
He tilted his head and tapped his lips in a stupidly comical way. "Yes, my dear Kaneki?" He asked.
"Tell me... why did you make those beams fall on us that afternoon?" I asked, I wanted an answer, but I'd have to move quickly if he didn't agree to answer.
"Because it was fun." He said plainly.
"I thought so." I mumbled under my breath, now that he's said it I know that the part of me that wants to rip him apart is correct. I let my kagune slowly form on my back.
"Oh~, what a beautiful shade of red." He said with delight, clicking his briefcase in his hands. It was a normal quinque, not really a threat.
He started to run at me, and violently swing around. I dodge his attacks one after another, taking a few steps back. Just as I'm about to counter, a person lands next to me and trips Furuta with his kagune, making him clumsily fall on his face.
Riki Hada stood there, glancing back at me with a blank look. "Kaneki, get moving. We can't waste time with this Clown." He said.
While combating the feeling of me wanting to kill Furuta, I give him a nod and run the opposite direction. Riki stays there, and turns back to Furuta as he gets up.
I'm not sure how strong that Riki guy is, but I hope he can hold off Furuta for a long enough time for me to find Kurona. I jump down a few flights of stairs and enter the final floor.
The final floor of Cochlea is where all the S rated and above ghouls are sent. There aren't many cells down here since there isn't many S rated ghouls that the CCG captures, most of them they exterminate because their too dangerous.
I look into a cell and state into it for a moment. A memory flashes before my eyes, remembering when I first woke up. Arima had asked me what my name should be.
"Haise... Sasaki..." I remember mumbling, Arima glanced over at me with a raised eye brow.
"And why that?" He asked.
In reality I just made a name that represented things I liked.
Haise Sasaki (Coffee, World).
I remember having this conversation with a ghost of a man in a cell much like this. That name, Haise Sasaki, I still held very close to me, no matter how much it seemed like I shunned it now.
That name represented a point in my life where I could be almost normal. But with a life such as mine, nothing can be completely normal.
I stepped into the final hall, about ten cells more to check. One of these, Kurona was inside. The hallway was larger than the upper floors, because each cell was bigger than the rest.
That and the testing centers were near here.
The testing rooms that Kurona was in had to be around here, or maybe in another hall? Either way I'd find them. Levin should be upholding his part of this plan, being the distraction on Rue was the biggest risk in this operation.
But I can't say what I'm doing isn't any less dangerous. For an rogue dove and SS rated ghoul, I have to be close on the top of CCG's kill list.
I stop at another cell and open it, but there was nothing in there but a bunch of boxes. Just a couple more to go. I walk to the next door, and open it forcefully.
But I froze as I looked inside.
Inside was a single chair, in the chair was a man in a white overcoat. His snow white hair was calmly brushed. He glanced up at me slowly before straightening his glasses and standing.
"Haise, it seems you have come." Arima said, picking up his briefcase.
I take a step back. Of course they'd leave Arima to guard the prison, he's the best for their defense. But, if it's come to this, then I have no choice.
I let my kagune loose and snap my finger. I didn't need to say anything, he already understood what was going to happen. This was going to be my grave.
If I can at least buy enough time for the others to get Kurona out, then it'll all be worth it.
Arima examined me, then clicked the button on his briefcase.
Levin POV
I run back up the beach and up to the forests. Fighting was still going on around me, but I dodged the fighting and kept pushing through.
The others were in trouble if Arima was there. I can't get off the island though because of it being surrounded with CCG boats. Many of the Aogiri forces are either fighting to the death or escaping through small openings that were left open.
I bite my lip. I should've seen this minor miscalculation. Luckily the others can hold Arima back.
As I pass a small bunker, a kagune flies past my face, and I quickly duck to dodge it from severing my head. I stop in my tracks and turn around to find a white haired man.
"You... what did you do to Eto?" Seidou asked, his long white hair falling over his face in a mess. His one ghoul eye pulses with black and red veins.
"She's dead." I answered shortly, giving him a straight face, though he probably can't see it because of my mask.
He grit his teeth and screamed at me, lunging. "Liar!"
I dodged his slash, and kicked him in the gut, sending him into a tree. I stab his shoulder to keep him still. He struggled against it, trying to attack me even with me being at the advantage here.
"Just give up and leave." I said, feeling pity for this creature that used to be an investigator. I had heard from Eto when I was in Aogiri who he was in his past life, and it was pitiable to see what he turned into after she tortured him.
"I hate you! I'll eat you!" He screamed.
This made me chuckle. "That's pretty funny to hear. Are you saying your above me?" I asked slowly, staring at him in the eyes with the precision of a viper.
He grit his teeth, trying not to back down from his bravado. "You are scum, how dare you touch-!"
Before he could finish I cut his legs off, and threw him down to the beach. There he tried to crawl towards me, but he wasn't being fast enough.
No use to killing him.
I turn away and head to the other side of the island, maybe there's an opening in the blockade the CCG opened up. As I think this, the trees ruffle and I hear a chopping sound.
I look up to see a news helicopter. What's a new helicopter doing this close to a battleground like this? I squint to see better and I'm taken aback by who is in the side of the flying vehicle.
Rize?
(And the others come to the rescue! While Kaneki evaded Furuta, he is encountered by another obstacle, a greater one than before. Will this be the last moments of Kaneki Ken? Nonetheless I hope you enjoyed and have a wonderful day!) - MnMs171
