You knew it wasn't meant to last. You knew it, Demi knew it, everyone knew it. In what world could a relationship between a celebrity and a fan ever last? Not this one, that's for sure.

If this was a normal breakup, you would most likely be crying and begging for her to let you stay. She would be trying to explain how it wasn't you, but her. That wasn't the case this time. You were gathering all the clothes and everything else that had been left at her place overtime and she was leaning against the wall observing.

“Is that everything?” she asked as you stopped moving around. “I think so.” You shoved a few more items into your bag before zipping it up and walking into the living room. Demi followed close behind you.

“I love you so much Y/N” Demi announced as you were reaching for the door knob. You turned around to face her, offering her a small smile. “I love you too Demi” you said honestly. It was true, you loved her and she loved you. The relationship just wasn't meant to be. You were unable to adjust to her celebrity lifestyle, and she had a hard time remembering that you weren't used to the way things worked in Hollywood.

Despite everything, the relationship that you had with Demi was the best you had ever been in. And that says a lot, because you had been in quite a few. It was different with Demi though. From the moment you had bumped into her at a restaurant and started fangirling over her to right now, she was the perfect girlfriend. You rarely argued about relationship problems, instead choosing to work them out in much more intimate ways.

The problem was that you weren't it for each other. When Demi announced the break-up,the media instantly assumed it was because you had just been experimenting with each other. This was Demi's first real relationship with another girl, so naturally everyone thought that was the reason for the split.

Demi had laughed at that with you. They only saw what they wanted to see. If they had seen the relationship behind closed doors though, they would probably have been shocked. You thought that Demi would be shocked when after a passionate night you had brought up the idea of spending time apart. You were the shocked one however, when she agreed without protest.

As much as you loved her, you couldn't bring yourself to see a future with her in it. You wanted to settle down and start a family, but her career wouldn't allow that. She had recently achieved the status of being an international superstar, and that was her main focus right now. In a way, you were thankful for it. It gave you an easy out with no one getting hurt.

“Before you go, can we just kiss one last time?” Demi asked cautiously. You didn't even have to think about it, you just leaned in and kissed her. It wasn't done to try and salvage the relationship. You knew that she only asked so it could be added to her list of memories with you. Besides, what kind of break-up would it be without a last kiss?

“Maybe you could call me sometime” she suggested after breaking apart. “Of course” you agreed. On the inside though, you knew you would never call her. She probably knew as well, but it just seemed like the right thing to do. With one last smile, you walked out of the apartment and Demi's life. But you weren't sad. You both had a life to live, and letting each other go was the first step in moving on.
