Not Part of the Plan-Joe Keery

I looked at the positive test in my hands, my mind racing. This couldn't be happening. We've been dating for a little over a year and moved in together four months ago. This wasn't a part of our plan.

"Y/N? Babe, are you home?"

I opened my mouth to tell him where I was, but nothing came out. I shook my head as tears started streaming down my face. I was holding the test so tight, my knuckles were turning white. I didn't look up when I heard our bedroom door open.

"Y/N?" Joe called again, closer this time. "Are you in the bathroom?"

He knocked on the door, but he opened it when I didn't answer. He stood in the doorway as I closed my hands, wrapping them around the test.

"Sweetheart, are you alright?"

"I have to tell you something," I whispered, not looking at him. He walked over and knelt in front of me.

"What is it?"

Instead of saying anything, I opened my hands and showed him the positive pregnancy test.

"Is this. . . Holy. . . You're pregnant?"

"I've taken the test three times," I whispered. "I don't know. . . We're usually so careful. . . I had no idea. . . I'm sorry."

"Sorry?" Joe asked. "This is wonderful! We're having a baby!"

He pulled me to my feet and wrapped his arms around me. I was still in shock as I hugged him back. When he broke the hug, Joe grabbed my hand and led me out of the bathroom, into the bedroom. I sat on the bed as he started to plan things.

"We can turn the guest bedroom into a nursery for the baby," he started to excitedly plan. "Do you think your mom is going to want to come down and help? She's more than welcome. My mom will want to help too. Do you have a doctor's appointment set up? We could do one next week. . . Oh no."

"What?" That barely came out. It definitely wasn't strong.

I looked up to see him running his fingers through his hair.

"I'm leaving at the beginning of next month to start filming season 4," he said, his eyes wide. "I'll be gone for the next three to four months. I won't be here to help."

"So you want to keep it?"

"Keep it?" Joe asked. I looked up in time to see his eyes widen. He grabbed my hands and quickly sat next to me on the bed. "Of course, I want to keep our baby, Y/N. Why wouldn't I? It's our baby."

"But we had a plan," I stuttered.

"What are you. . ."

"Two years," I began stuttering out our life plan. "That's what we agreed on. We'd date for two years and then you would propose. We'd be engaged for a year and get married in between your filming projects."

"Y/N," Joe said gently, trying to cut me off but I kept going.

"We talked about being married for two, maybe three years before starting our family. We just skipped like five years ahead of our life plan."

"That wasn't a set plan, darling," he laughed light-heartedly. "That was just us talking one night over too much wine at dinner. But plans change. That's okay."

"No," I said, pulling my hands out of his hold and standing up. I continued to ramble as I paced back and forth. "This isn't okay, Joe. Forget the plan. What about you're job?"

"Whoa," he cut me off as he stood up and stepped in front of me so I couldn't keep pacing. "Y/N, slow down. What does you being pregnant have anything to do with my career?"

"This could ruin it."

"How?"

"If people find out we got pregnant when we weren't married, or even engaged, they're going to talk. An actor getting his live-in girlfriend pregnant? That's headlines and pictures and gossip. It could destroy your career."

"Please, stop," he sighed. "You're not just my live-in girlfriend, Y/N. You're the love of my life. And who gives a shit what some overgrown yearbook photographers have to say about you and me and our baby?"

"I don't want to ruin your career," I whispered.

"You don't ruin anything," he said sternly. "It's the opposite, actually. You are the reason I do what I do. I work as hard as I do to make you proud. You're my motivation. And now, our baby is going to be my motivation. Along with you, of course. ."

"But. . ."

"But nothing, darling," he said gently. "I love you and I am going to love our baby with every ounce of myself. He or she is going to want for nothing. I will work my ass off so our child can have a good life. I am going to take care of you, our baby, and any other children we have. I don't care about 'the plan'. I care about you, Y/N."

I grabbed his face and instantly kissed him. I felt him smile as our lips started moving in sync. We both had tears streaming down our faces as we kissed. When neither one of us could breathe, we finally broke apart.

"I love you," Joe said breathlessly. "I love you so much, Y/N. And I promise I will take care of you and our baby."

"I love you too, Joe."

"I'm in this," he whispered. "Totally, completely, a hundred percent in."
