Quinn took a deep breath as she walked over to Puck's locker. "Hey."
"Hey." Puck repeated. "What's up?"
Quinn furrowed her eyebrow.
"We haven't talked in months." Puck noted. "So what's up?"
"Why don't we hang out later?" Quinn suggested. "And catch up?"
"Just the two of us?" Puck asked.
"Is that a problem?" Quinn wondered.
Puck shook his head. "Not really, except I'm sort of seeing Lauren."
Quinn nodded slowly.
"Why don't you come over after school?" Puck blurted, happy that Quinn was even talking to him. "I can give you a ride home after glee and we can catch up."
"Lauren won't mind?" Quinn asked.
"We're just hanging out." Puck said.
Quinn raised her eyebrow.
"Well, maybe I won't tell her." Puck decided as the bell rang. "I'll see you later."
"See you later."
-
"Home sweet home." Puck muttered, leading the way into the Puckerman house. He closed the door behind Quinn. "Make yourself comfortable. Can I get you anything?"
"I'm fine." Quinn replied, putting her things down. "Besides, I know where everything is anyway."
"Right." Puck nodded. "Well, then let's sit and talk."
"Okay." Quinn nodded back as she and Puck sat down in the couch.
Neither of them said anything.
"So..." Puck muttered.
"So..." Quinn repeated.
"I'm really sorry things didn't work out with you and Finn this time around." Puck blurted.
"Yeah, we couldn't fix what happened last year so..." Quinn shrugged as she trailed off.
"I'm sorry." Puck apologized.
"I know." Quinn replied. "It's okay."
Puck nodded slowly.
"So... how are things with Lauren?" Quinn wondered.
"Good." Puck answered.
"Are you in love?" Quinn teased in a singsong voice.
"No." Puck said. "I like her and she's fun and all, but it's not like that. Not for me anyway."
"You seem happy with her." Quinn noted.
"Yeah, well, after you and juvie, I'm trying." Puck said with a shrug.
"After me?" Quinn asked.
"I meant it when I told you I loved you." Puck replied as he looked at Quinn.
Quinn bit her lip and broke the eye contact as she looked down at her hands and picked at her nails.
"We don't have to talk about it." Puck assured Quinn. "Let's just catch up."
"We were catching up." Quinn pointed out.
"Okay." Puck muttered. "Then let's find an easier way to break the tension. Let's play twenty questions."
"Twenty questions?" Quinn repeated with a smile. "How old are you?"
"It's already working." Puck noted. "Go ahead. Ask me anything."
"Okay." Quinn said. "What was juvie like?"
"I told you I ruled that place." Puck replied.
Quinn raised her eyebrow, knowing better.
"Okay, fine. It sucked." Puck answered. "There are some hardcore dudes in there."
"More badass than you?" Quinn asked.
"Juvie was full of guys with no families, no future. No one cares about them." Puck stated. "I thought that was me, but-"
"That's not you." Quinn interrupted.
Puck nodded slowly.
"Your turn." Quinn noted.
"For what?" Puck wondered.
"To ask me something." Quinn responded.
"Okay." Puck said, pausing while he thought about it. "Why'd you cheat on Sam?"
"Sam was sweet and fun, but Finn loved me." Quinn stated. "And I thought I loved him."
"You cheated on Finn and Sam." Puck noted. "You never cheated on me."
"Well, I was pregnant and had no one else." Quinn pointed out. "Besides, were we even together?"
"It felt like we were." Puck said.
Quinn bit her lip.
"Sorry." Puck apologized. "Your turn to ask me something."
"Okay." Quinn exhaled. "When's the last time you cried?"
"I don't cry." Puck shook his head.
"I don't believe you." Quinn replied.
"Fine." Puck sighed. "The last time I cried was when we left the hospital without Beth. I took you home and then I came here and cried like a fucking baby."
"Noah." Quinn said softly. "I'm sorry."
Puck shook his head.
"I could see it in your eyes how much you wanted to keep her." Quinn admitted. "But I couldn't."
"Because of me?" Puck guessed.
"Because I loved her." Quinn responded. "And I know she would have a better life with a real adult."
"I know." Puck agreed. "But I also know we could've made it work."
"I know." Quinn repeated. "That's why I haven't been around for you this year. I've felt guilty about it."
"You were strong enough for the both of us, Q." Puck stated.
Quinn took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "I miss you."
Puck looked at her.
"I miss being with you." Quinn told Puck. "After everything we've been through, I don't think that'll ever go away."
"I've missed you, too." Puck said. "I just wanted to give you space this year."
"I thought you hated me." Quinn confessed. "Ignoring me all year and then the Lucy stuff."
"I'm sorry about that." Puck apologized. "I shouldn't have told Lauren about that."
Quinn nodded slowly.
"And I wasn't trying to ignore you." Puck added. "When I came back from juvie, you were with Sam and I figured it might be easier for us to go back to the way things were before we were together."
"And now?" Quinn wondered.
"Like I said, I've missed you." Puck noted.
"Can we go back to being friends?" Quinn requested. "I mean, I know we never really were, but maybe we can start there."
"Yeah." Puck nodded. "I'd like that."
"Me, too."
