Nubia

Is...is DC trying to run itself into the ground?

This new comic that even other black people are hating came out, and it's like I'm Not Starfire (I should say IANS is more like this since it came out after this) but paints every white person as either racist or a bystander, all or most white people have blue eyes and blonde hair (I may have blue eyes, but my hair is naturally dark brown, and my white mom has green-brown eyes with dark hair) and you can't even tell the black men are men that identify as men because they look so much like women (Not hating on those types of guys. This just made it seem like that's the only black men there are.)
Literally, they are cis straight dudes, don't even say they're just men with a feminine style. The only way you would actually know they're cis straight guys is because Dollar Store Nubia calls them so.

And it's not even an original character. Nubia was an already existing super hero. She was a powerful muscular woman who was one of Wonder Woman's sisters.

And get this. The author had the audacity to add in a School Shooting to push their "White people bad" idea.

There was a total of, what, 24 school shootings the year this came out? And before that, there were 13 (or more that I didn't see) in 2019 (since this comic came out in Feb 2020)

So the FUKING AUDACITY to not only add in a school shooting, but to use it to fuel your white hate is on a whole other level of disgusting.

And Nubia is told "not to expose her powers" for some reason.

This is a world with rich guys beating up people in a bat costume, women who come from other planets, cousins (or was it siblings?) with laser eyes, a team of a robot man, a green dude who turns into animals, a full on demon, an alien chick, and a human leader.

Why and how the f is a teenage girl having powers something to be kept a BIG secret? Why not just give her a dam herosona and clothes?

And she added trans women to the Amazons...

The Amazons were possibly a real group of women, and they didn't accept anyone born male into their group. Men were just for breeding and slaving to them. So trans women most likely wouldn't be welcomed either.

Not only that, the author legit thinks that putting diversity over good story is the better option.

Now, I don't have a Twitter account or go on it very much, but I saw this, where she said "If I could physically fight a tweet..."

(Of course she's a big twitter user...)

What she disagreed with was:

"To avoid getting siloed as an "issue book," use comps that aren't "issue books" either. Emphasize character goals rather than character gender or disability. Look for plot resonance rather than direct parallels; how obstacles play out rather than where those obstacles originate."
She was saying this when talking about new writers wanting to make and publish a book, being helpful.

Basically, as I read it, it means "Make an interesting story with a good plot, give the character their own goals, and don't make their gender, disabilities, etc; be their whole personality. It can be a part of them, but not their whole being, their whole story."
Y'know, something plenty of good shows and books did that people enjoyed? Even when there was black, disabled, or queer characters added, that wasn't the whole plot point for them. They were living being who resembled a puzzle, these things just being another piece of their whole picture.

But no. This author thinks that writing about a black character, being black is the upfront detail for them. Not their personal journey, not their families and bonds, not what they've gone through, not the things they enjoy. They're black first, realistic characters-...y'know, not even 2nd. Because authors personal opinion is 2nd.

In some of my books I plan to write, I do have some black characters in mind. But they were personalities and powers, just silhouettes, before I started thinking about how they look and add more to their stories.

And wanna know how the comic ends?

Back to the school shooting.
White dude is doing it because a black woman wouldn't let him have some fuk, holding the girl at gunpoint in the school, Nubia saves her, and then he shoots Nubia in the arm.
Then he says "I got you on camera fighting the police some days ago, so they'll believe me when I say you were the shooter and not me."
Despite other students having image and video proof of it being him and can say "She was in the room with us when he started."
( I know there's some corrupt departments and officers, but there would be people roaring in outcry with their proof it was him and not her, so that even if the PD doesn't listen, everyone would know )

And then what does Nubia do?
Does she use her powers to take his phone?
Does she snatch the gun and apprehend him and tell him she has witnesses?
Does she use any of her superpowers?

Nope!
She takes out her phone in front of him, record as he's staring at her while talking, and then says "Nope, I have proof against you."
Uno reverse, basically.

So instead of shooting her and taking her phone to delete the evidence, or even shoot the phone, he instead starts to curl up and whine like "Oh no, my life is ruined..."

I wish. I. Was. Kidding.

It legit went down like this.

From what other black people have said about this, it seems like the Boyfriends of Black Characters.

And DC just keeps it up. They. Will. Not. Stop.
Like I said, this came out before I Am Not Starfire. So they learn literally nothing.

The story is horrid, they dumb down Nebula to a shy teen girl who only bursts when angry. Heck only for her friend. Everyone else is in danger? She MIGHT throw an ATM (Legit, first pages, she threw an ATM at robbers instead of a chair or something, and then the cashier called the cops on her.) But she'll beat someone up if they're harassing her friend.
This and Dumpsterfire really should get together. -_-

Give me the reigns, I'll write a story where Harley still goes crazy after Joker tricks her, but she instead wants revenge against him and tries to convince Batman to help her, and she has Ivy.
I'll write a story about Nightwing and Starfire's son who wants to help make his mom's home planet safe for her to go back to.
I'll write a story where it takes place in older times, and some of them are children of gods. Of course, Wonder Woman would be still be part of the Amazons since they're from Greek Myth.
I can write better stuff than whatever TF these people are putting out.
Like, do they ignore their customers? Their poor sales? Will they ever higher someone who doesn't have a "This thing bad, this thing good because it's like me!" thing going on?
