Now that I'm seeing this when older and seeing all these scenes together, makes me realized how fuking unstable this guy actually was.

Dude was already evil enough. But then you actually realize just how evil he really was!

He locks a child in a dark room to interrogate him without parents consent or possibly even without any other law enforcement knowing (If they aren't gonna take his findings of a giant footprint seriously, imagine what they'd think of him doing this), and was inducing fear with "Your mom isn't hear" and "We can have you taken from her." Then he goes ahead and DRUGS THE CHILD with a drug that was made illegal YEARS AGO BECAUSE IT HAD DEADLY AFFECTS.

And then you think "He interrogated, stalked, harassed, and drugged a CHILD (With an illegal substance) because of his own nearly baseless suspicions other than a gun that says Hog Hug." Like, that was his only base of suspicion. If he tried telling any law enforcement his reason for suspecting this random kid, he probably  would've been laugh at.

And I'm like 99% sure he got either life in prison or death for LAUNCHING A NUKE AT A POPULATED TOWN, BECAUSE OF ONE KID AND HIS ROBOT, to then say "Screw our country!" before yanking a soldier out of his car and trying to drive off.
And Iron Giant takes place about 12 years after WW2, during the Cold War. So ya, he'd probably get life in lockup or executed, right?
He launched a nuke at a small town during the 50s in a time of unrest following WW2, and then immediately says "SCREW OUR COUNTRY" before committing a form of assault on a soldier by yanking him out of a military vehicle and stealing it.

And then you gotta think of the aftermath of if the Giant didn't save the day.
it's the 50s, and there's tension between Russia and the US, Kent even says there's a Russian satellite orbiting Earth and watching them.
So imagine a report of the US military going to investigate a small town only for a nuke to be sent there without even evacuating the people.
That would cause the tension to snap and would've probably led to an even bigger war.
Because of one mans emotions.

But with that bit aside, the guy had so much hate towards a CHILD he kept stalking, harassing, physically assaulting them, literally nailing the child's window room shut (Without the permission of the homeowner/mother of the child) and watching him all night, and telling a lie so that the kid gets a nuke launched at him and the robot. But he seemed to have more hate towards the kids than fear of the robot!

Because of a gun that said Hog Hug! In the great US of A where people name their guns (Like Shaw in Open Season) and have that name put on the gun itself!

We see he's right that it was Hogarth, and that his suspicions are proven in the end with the boy revealing himself with the robot. But if was saw it from the perspective of someone who didn't know the kid's side, didn't see the end the way the movie shows, we would see a crazy person harassing a child with no set-in-stone evidence!

When you're a kid watching it, you hate him for obvious reasons of him being the villain who acts before thinking and hates a kid and his robot.
But when you're older and actually can think more, you realized just how screwed up this guy and his actions were! Like, he's either in some isolated cell somewhere (Isolated because he was part of the government and had secrets), or was executed.
