Ugly Love

"We laugh at our son's big balls."

That's def my que to never ever pick of a Colleen Hoover book-

That line was written with all seriousness, no satire, in the book Ugly Love. Guy says his son got all his beauty from the son's mother (which is the guy's step-sister), but that he got his balls from his dad. And the step-sis mom goes "I know! They're so huge!" And it's followed by that line.

Then immediately after, on their way home from the hospital, their son dies in a car accident by drowning.

Again. This is written with no satire, as far as I can tell-

I swear on the River Styx that I will never ever ever ever ever ever read a Colleen Hoover story. About other stories I heard by her, even if I liked things that's supposed to be in our world with no magic or anything, I do not want to pick up a single book by this woman. Like, they sound like she was a major Twilight fan who loved Edward and never grew out of that phase other than the aesthetic.

I've no reason to pick up these books. I don't really read romance stories unless they're subplots.  I don't like "romances" that are fuking toxic. I don't like stuff reality-based. I especially don't like this sexualization of a baby.
If the baby had some condition that made their bits different, then okay. I had a puppy who had unnaturally big balls which only fixed when he was given a dewormer medicine. It happens. But this seems off. Who the f says "That newborn got his big balls from his dad" without it being kind of creepy?

But hey. If someone who writes lines such as "We both laugh at our son's big balls" can get you a whole dam bookshelf dedicated to your works, I think I can feel a little more confident in my future as an author.
Yet I also don't feel such because it seems a lot of the new talked-about books are stuff like this. I want to write fairytale retellings and serious twists on magic and elves and such and have actual dam development with new worlds and healthy relationships. And it seems the opposite is getting more spotlight these days. Even if being hate-read, it's still a lot more attention.
